The foam ones are fine. There are no real issue with it. I wouldn't get an all foam one though. It tends to get really soft and sink. The one that is a hybrid spring and foam is ideal for me. Also try to buy one with a cooling top. How much do you weigh? If you are really light then hard or medium might be too much for you. If you are heavy like 250 lbs and up then medium might be on the softer side.

Also what is your budget? The foam ones tend to allow a trial period. You can revac and send back if you don't like it.

I got a nicer foam one (has a few layers of other stuff on top) and I'm sold - never want to go back to a traditional mattress. My wife is 50/50 though, so they're not everyone's clear preference or anything.

Guy above mentioned the trial period on the foam ones. Check how good it actually is and give one a try, is my thought.

I don't know what the sweet spot is for the budget. Before looking it up, my budget was around $1500 to $2000 maybe.

Then I saw on Amazon they have ones that are under $500, so now I'm not so sure what is a good amount to spend.

amazon brand ones for a few hundred bucks are good, i got one and have been satisfied
This.

I upgraded to a king last year and I bought this entire deal on Amazon that came with a frame I had to put together and a mattress in a vacuum sealed bag that blew up when you open it. The whole thing was like under $500 and it looks great and is comfortable. Blew my mind honestly.

I'm afraid of going to a mattress store, try something out and liking it there, only to hate it once it's home and we've been sleeping on it for a few days.

That's what happened to me. Loved the mattress in the store but at home it just wasn't anywhere close to being as comfortable.

Took me a few weeks it was the damn mattress protector. I took it off and the mattress became as comfortable in the store within a few days.

It's pretty overwhelming the amount of options out there. I'm a bit weary about these foam mattresses. I currently have a spring with padding on top that we've had for 8 years and the springs kinda starting to wear out. I'm leaning towards a softer mattress now. I think what we got is a medium.

I'm also not sure on how much to spend. The prices vary wildly. There's a ton on Amazon that only sell for under $500 that have very high ratings. But how good can a mattress be that sells for under $500. Also, they deliver it in a box... and you gotta let it expand for a day. That's kinda weird.

was just talking about this today IRL

its one of those big ticket items that is very difficult to purchase with certainty.

testing it out at a store really doesnt provide certainty on whether u like it and buying online without trying is an issue

i wouldnt trust amazon reviews.

i bought a $200 mattress on amazon a long time ago which had a ton of five star reviews and it fucking sucked.

is there a difference in quality between $500 and $1000 ? how the hell are u supposed to know?

amazon reviews are a lie. the companies bribe their customers to post positive shit.

Just make sure it's a California King. Nothing beats a huge mattress.

alaskan king is really the way to go.

Get an air mattress. I'm not even joking. The one I use for camping is better than most of the other mattresses I've slept on.

I hear so many people spending thousands and thousands of dollars on mattresses

mine is just over 10 years old now and I cringe at the thought of buying a new one

Foam mattress are just as good as spring. I loved my foam mattress till my dogs realized it was a king size dog toy.

I'm not sure why bigger sizes aren't more popular. I'm only 5'9" but I sleep on my stomach with my hands above me and I still either hit the headboard or nearly have my feet off the edge on my King size. I guess taller people can't sleep like that.

I recently bought a high end hybrid foam mattress to replace a very high end pocket sprung one.

My pocket sprung was more comfortable and I've been surprised by how firm the memory foam is. However the foam is excellent at weight transfer so Mrs Yin doesn't get disturbed by my constant moving around whilst asleep.

Foam does take a least a month to break in and mould to your body and weight, so they may feel terrible to start with.

Seems like most mattresses are nice these days and come with some kinda try it for so many night guaranteed

I’m a big proponent of spending my money on things I spend the most time with. A bed, a house, a comfortable chair for work. It’s like, some people spend all their money on things they use for a few days a year. My stuff I use for many hours every day. I spent a lot of money on my mattress but I feel very well rested, never wake up feeling uncomfortable or sore. Fall asleep right away. It’s great

California king is actually smaller in overall dimensions than a king.
It’s a bit longer and narrower than a standard king.
