Where did the hype come from? I remember hearing Joe Rogan mention him in some fights. Did he do some crazy shit in Japan? Or in his first UFC fights maybe?
 
He went on a pretty decent run in Japan. He was one of the top prospects at 145 lbs at one point.
 
I vaguely remember his fights having repeated fouls / general weirdness.
 
He has an aggressive/reckless style of fighting.Had some folks excited for a little while, like me.
 
He was a Tazmanian Devil in the ring for a few fights, I was happy to see him come to the UFC at that time.
 
He was just a wild man fighting Japanese cans

Some people like blatantly dirty fighters I guess. Also Japan cans.
 
Was fun to watch him go bezerk in Japan, I remember him kneeing a guy up the arse as he tried to escape out the ropes!

Doesn’t he have some sort of wrestling pedegree? Can’t quite remember
 
He used to remind me of the old Chute Boxe guys but yea he was known for crushing guys in Japan.

He has a very strong wrestling background
No mma fighter has wrestled against a better wrestler than he did in his one of wrestling matches
He was explosive and punched hard..
Good wrestling aggression power.
Well justified hype that didnt pan out
 
Blanco vs Akira Corassani is one of the funniest fights I've ever seen.
