Srsly... WTF... i understand we lost the main event, but holy shit... are we really putting up a natural 145 vs a guy who should be fighting at 170 and has been rag-dolling people 2x the size of max?

Max does not have 1 shot KO power to finish Khabib in 1 hit, he usually chains combos together, and max does not have the wrestling anywhere close needed to defend even one takedown..... All we are going to see is a mauling again, at best UFC shoulda brought in some scrub to keep this fight on, but not a champ from another division that will have his stock diminished when he loses(cuz you know, sherdog logic)

This is a horrendous match up and is going to be a terrible fight.... You got a small guy vs a gigantic wrestler that struggles to make weight.... You have a tiny guy on short notice vs someone who has maxed out his training camp preparing for a similar fighter in Tony.....

I understand its to save the fight, and it will get both fighters paid, and that Max is a warrior, but the fight itself is pretty dumb.

So.... This isn't an april Fools joke....

They already have another title fight on the card. They should have just pulled Khabib and booked him against someone next month.

It's a weird fight, but not bad.
Its bad.... What do you expect to see? Its like putting up DJ to fight khabib and saying its a decent fight...Max doesn't wrestle, his ground game is much worse then Tony's and on short notice too... You dont do another champion like that.... Why diminish another champions stock for no reason like that when you coulda found a bum to take this fight, give khabib an easy win and then set up up for a next fight, quickly too if he takes no damage.

im preparing myself for another Barboza type domination.

but the problem is most LW's wont be able to make weight on time and alot of them wont want to fight a high level guy on short notice. Max has nothing to lose.

Yeah it's a crappy way for Max to lose his streak, but if he wins.......just imagine:eek:

No, Max vs Khabib is the only fight that makes sense. All max has to do is win and then we get the two time champion super fight rematch, Conor vs Hollaway 2 for the lineal LW and FW Titles.

Who would you rather have in there? Almost every event has had the main event fall through this year, and most of the top LW fighters are matched up. Conor needs to be stripped, ferguson holds an interim belt win over kevin lee...

I imagine Dana just said fuck it and wiped the slate clean, phoned holloway to get a champ vs champ fight going (what else could hold up to Tferg vs khabib? this has done alright in saving UFC face) and said that's it, it's done.

Now the question is will ortega fill in for khabib on 24 hours notice.

Khabib's destiny is to become champ. It's not going to be denied by Max. The guy that has nothing to lose is a dangerous fight and this will showcase even further the punishment Max can take and still keep going. I'm not sure this is even an easier fight for Khabib honestly. Max is experienced in 5 round fights and has cardio.

The inevitable is that hes not a big guy for lw and will be another of the 25 to experience the power of Nurmagomedov first hand. Even Cormier laughs at the power of Khabib and everyone at aka pretty much consider him the phenomenon at that place.

I've been around the fight game sherdoggies, seen fighters come and go way before the join date. Khabib will not be denied having the strap, it won't be interim, whatever bozo Dana says this will be the real champion. Goner McGregor has been smoke and mirrors for a while now and if he ever steps foot inside the cage for the biggest fight in UFC history vs Nurmagomedov you will see the greatest thing ever. That's not in the cards but the possibility is there. There is nothing at this point in fighting that would make me happier than hearing Khabib's punches denting the sides of McGregor calling him a chump and my title, give up. I would actually buy the ppv for that fight and I never support Gonor fights.

Even worse.... Barboza is a physical freak of nature... Hes super strong and shredded... At worst he shrugged a few takedowns from strength alone before he got tired, Barboza's thigh is like the size of entire Max's body.... This is going to be like picking up a child and burping him....Max outworks his opponents thru his cardio, you cant out cardio someone who is laying on top of you, just a piss poor fight wasting a champions potential and career possible vs a much larger man.

Think of Anderson Silva vs DC.......Except DC 10 years younger and in his prime....

Just a bad fight, yes he saved the card, but he will be out 6 months after this and we wont see him fight until next year most likely once he recovers from this

Hate to admit it but you are right TS. Max is definitely one of the best fighters in MMA but weight classes are there for a reason. Conor looked way thicker than Max when they fought so imagine how Max would look compared to Khabib.

That's a WMMA fight. UFC 223 is the card that was supposed to get a lot of buys but it would tank without Khabib against another well known fighter.

Mainly because Max has already repeatedly said he wants to fight Khabib. He insists that he wants this fight.

This could be a great fight. Max has balls stepping up to this.

If anything thats what should of fucking happened.... Ortega should have gotten the call because he took almost no damage in his Edgar fight...At least those dudes r on equal size, not a someone who is 2 weight classes smaller in a champ v champ, its not even a good champ v champ fight.... Things fall thru all the time, does not mean you need to ruin Max's career over this... this dude might seriusly injure himself.....have you seen what khabib has been doing to people twice the size of max? This shit is no joke..... He might get slammed on his neck.....Not only that but now we will have to wait 3-6 months for Max to recover before he can even train again all due to a short notice fight.... Hes a CHAMPION..... he shouldn't be doing short notice fights....

Max is a dumbass for taking this fight and anyone who expects a competitive contest is just as dumb.

I save you time and money.

Khabib lands a takedown instantly.

Max never gets up.

See you guys on saturday

It's not a bad fight, it's the most interesting fight they could make on short notice, and would be a legitimate ppv main event regardless. In terms of setting up a fight with McGregor, it's excellent. The winner can say he's the best 145/155lb fighter, until McGregor starts fighting again.

Realistically, though, the elite fighter from the higher weight class should win easily, especially with a full camp against a guy who is reasonable close stylistically to his original opponent. I think that on fight day, they'll look to be about the same size, but the years of fighting larger opponents will show in terms of ability to control the fight.
