Doesn't really matter, The way I see it is Back of head strikes are banned mainly in usage as a strategy, particularly if the opponent is in a vulnerable position defending a rear naked choke or something like that....

With The angle and distance that matt brown throws the elbow from, as well as the way diego is holding himself, head bent downwards, it's not really obvious he was aiming for the back of the head, which is key....

also with elbows, forearms, shins etc there is a long surface area to possibly contact with the back of the opponents head....it doesn't mean however that the strike was irresponsibly thrown or shouldn't have been thrown, it's just the luck of the sport

i dont think for one sec that he was aiming for the back of the head, i was just trying to see if it actually did hit the back of his head.. diego went right out

He's not wrong. That was clearly on the mohawk strip.

Although it does land on side and back of the head, the unified rules of MMA would not count this as a foul..as the back of the head is not the intended target or is not intentionally being struck..this is a bi product of Diego flinching and trying to avoid said strike and exposing his own head to the strike..he probably would of stayed up if he had taking it standing straight but probably would had a Nasty gash on his head or eye for it.. so no foul here..just kinda unlucky for Diego who was doing pretty good against brown almost had him done with that body kick
