News Mateusz Gamrot vs. Rafael dos Anjos set for UFC 299 in March

Big risk here for Gamrot and a big opportunity here for RDA to get back to being a contender.

I am sure that RDA jumped all over this fight. But I am not sure the logic for Gamrot here, he mentioned weeks ago he's got a big fight booked and very excited, so perhaps it's the name value RDA brings.

I guess Gamrot wasn't able to get any of the higher ranked opponents.

I guess Makhachev is fighting at UFC 299 or in Saudi Arabia and they want a good backup fighter ready to go

Interesting. I was pretty certain they were gonna do this as an O'Malley test, see where he stands ppv wise solo

Gamrot finishes late. 40yo RDA cant keep up the pace.

Prime RDA smokes him everywhere.

Very bizarre matchmaking in my opinion. This fight doesn't really do much for Gamrot. Gamrot, in my opinion, should be fighting up in the rankings or at least down in the rankings to an up-and-comer. Instead, he'll be fighting RDA, who has a semi-recent loss to Fiziev, a guy that Gamrot just defeated (albeit due to injury).
Its obvious the UFC doesn't want him getting a title shot. That's what happens when you don't get finishes. Beating RDA gets him nowhere.

Horrible matchmaking by the UFC as usual. It pretty much confirms that Benoit saint denis will be fighting either Jailin turner or Dan hooker next, though. Or Dariush if the UFC hates Dariush.

This is entirely about keeping other fighters busy so they can't fight Islam.

Gamrot should be in a fight that produces a top contender. Unfortunately this is a nothing fight. If gamrot wins, he's in the same spot as he is now. If RDA wins, nobody will be arguing that he deserves a title shot based off one win. This is the type of match making that slows divisions down and the UFC does it a lot lately. Very frustrating.

The obvious match for Gamrot is Chandler. I know Chandler says he wants a shot at Conor but he has the #5 spot on UFC rankings for beating Tony who is a top 30 now and Hooker who is #10. He can have the #9 spot ahead of Hooker but if you want to be #5 you must beat #6 Gamrot and fight Conor when and if Conor ever fights again. If Gamrot just wants a fight the better match is Benoit.

These guys need to be fighting Poirer not down like this. I guess they will all have more top 15 wins than the champ before they get a shot even with some losses thrown in.
I think the Champ should be working his way down the ladder while the rest are working their way up and no rematches until it’s done. Islam should fight Gaejthe then Poirier as he has already beaten Charles and Tsarukyan. Gamrot should be third but needs to bump off Chandler. At that point everyone will get a shot or have a loss above them preventing the shot .

That's silly. Sure you could go Gaethje over Charles, but Charles holds wins over everyone and we have seen rematches go completely differently for example Volk Vs Islam 2 in different circumstances. Both Charles and Gaethje went back and beat top 5 guys to earn another shot at the title.

Saying he beat Arman, when the reality is he beat a debuting Arman on short notice nearly 5 years ago. They just made Gamrot vs RDA, so most likely we get Arman vs Poirer with Gaethje and Charles fighting Islam in the meantime if he doesn't go to 170.

Who is this fight for? There's a million more interesting options for both guys at this point. I guess technically RDA is still in the top 15 in the UFC's rankings still doesn't make sense

Also prime RDA takes Gamrots lunch

No idea whatsoever why Gamrot is fighting RDA in 2024. What a weird piece of matchmaking.

I like it. Gamrot needs to keep busy and he needs a fight, RDA is still a big name. RDA might not be in the title contention now and is getting ole, but he’s still a very good veteran fighter with a well rounded game. Who else is there?

Poirier doesn’t want to fight. He’s looking for big name fights and got KO’d last time, so he’s out.

Gaethje? I don’t know, he’s probably waiting out for a title shot.

Tsarukyan just fought and is hoping for a title shot.

Oliveira is fighting for the title, again.

Chandler is waiting for the Conor fight that was promised to him 84 years ago.

Dariush just fought and got KO’d.

Fiziev is injured. Hooker is injured. Turner just fought on short notice.
