Masvidal: "I would describe Nate Diaz as not the most skillful guy"

It's true. Can't wrestle for shit. Can't stop leg kicks even after being nearly crippled by RDA. Don't kick. Both diaz bros refuse to evolve. They have boxing, BJJ, and granite chins period. It's enough to make them gatekeepers but never champs in this day and age.

Nate could get lucky tho since Conman will duck anyone good and fight him again. Would be hilarious Nate as LW champ

To be fair, Nick does kick. They look horrible but he does utilize kicks. It's pretty sad to see fighters not knowing how to check leg kicks though

Well I keep hearing both Conor and Michael Johnson actually suck, especially Conor. So yeah, Diaz is mediocre, if even that.
Nobody said they suck. Masvidal is talking about well roundedness/skills needed to compete in todays MMA. And yes all you mention are lacking. Conor is a fish out of water on the ground. MJ better but not that much. Diaz he mentioned weaknesses.

they do check leg kicks

but they cant keep their fucking foot up the entire fight. how do you think McGregor broke his foot in his fight with Diaz? it wasnt from kicking his calf or the meaty part of the thigh.

their style just doesnt work against leg kicks and wrestlers, period

they are volume punchers who stand upright and plod forward with a heavy front leg. so people will leg kick them all fucking fight and take them down, or leg kick them and run away (Carlos Condit)

they are too far into their careers to adapt, nor do they want to. I look at them as I do Rampage. Put them in exciting/favorable fights and enjoy the fuck out of them while they are still here

for some reason though, UFC and Bellator decide to give Rampage fights against 100% wrestlers in his last 10 fights

You need to google the word mediocre to learn how to use it properly.
Look I'll show you. Janne1 is a mediocre Sherdog poster.

well, he can't even defend a leg kick, so there's some truth to that
Or defend a TD. Rewatch RDA fight it's like a cliff notes how to beat diaz bros. Masvidal would beat both diaz's handily in 3. 5 not so sure because he coasts or maybe gases and hides it.

He defended Conors takedown, lol. Cliff notes don't mean shit if you don't have the skill set of an RDA. I seriously doubt Conor couldve stop a takedown from RDA. Maybe Conor would've knocked him out, but RDA has good takedowns. Diaz gets taken down by guys like RDA,Henderson and gsp. All guys that most people would have problems defending. I do think Masvidal would win that fight though, unless he tried to win a pissing match with Nate.

Stop making sense. The Sherdog logic says, if you probably won't be champ, you should instantly retire. Losing one fight in the Top 10 also makes you a gatekeeper for the rest of your life.

Well he is 6-6 since 2011.

Anyway, there's something kind of perfect about that one 5-second piece of a thought, with no other context, being posted by a user named 'Unfinished Sentenc'

Yes, brought to you by the same person who coined the phrase "painted heart"

yeah, probably true ... but he gets a pass for choking out Connor.

He's right. Nate would be a complete can if it weren't for his chin and size

When Nate is into it, he's very skilled. Has great hands, high volume punches, great cardio, and a very very good ground game. Love his sub of Jim Miller.

Mediocre doesn't beat guys like Michael Johnson and Conor McGregor at this level of the game they are in. You have to actually be good. Nate Diaz probably isn't champ material, but he is good.

Those were perfect match-ups for him.

Against wrestlers he looks absolutely terrible. There's lots of guys fighting in the prelims with better wrestling and kicks than Diaz.

It's true. He's pretty mediocre.

What makes diaz a very very tough fighter...is his ability to take punishment and his amazing cardio...plus he does have good boxing skills...

I'm probably in the minority here but i'm still not behind that idea of you being a better fighter by being able to do a lot of different things. I hear this comparison being made all the time, fighter X is better because he can punch, kick, knee, elbow, throw spinning shit, superman punch, switch stances, clinch, dirty box etc etc.

If you are really good at just a few of those things you can still do very well. Cowboy has some of the best kicks in MMA and nate absolutely dominated him. Anderson and Fedor dominated most of their fights without ever using kicks. It gives you another tool, but it's not so black and white.
