what is better in your opinion ?

i for example do Judo ( cca 3 years ) and i'm wondering if it's better to divide my 3 training days per week and try to learn a stand up art as well. in self defence scenario i would be in a serious disadvantage with no striking skills.

i'm watching a lot of MMA for years now so at least i know not to throw haymakers and i would try with straight punches but watching alone doesnt give me the right technique. better than nothing i guess but still not nearly enough to feel comfortable in a self defence scenario.

i can't train more than 3 days per week simply because of my hectic life... also my recovery from training is shit and i don't want to take dick pills to correct this.

Unless you're high level in one, the correct answer is jack of all trades

I'm assuming you want to fight? With that said you have to cross train. Judo is a great martial art. Teaches you great throws, how to fall as good as any martial art, gives you amazing grip strength, and teaches you good subs from a few positions(especially side control). However, head movement and footwork is typically crap, so you need to learn boxing, and kickboxing. Flexibility is usually sub par, and unless you are a world class Judoka you probably aren't great off your back.

If you only have 3 training sessions a week I would split them at different schools, assuming you have the means to do so. MMA gyms can be costly especially if you are training at more than one. If you want to fight and you are tight on funds I would suggest you leave your gym and go to another style. If you have trained in Judo for 3 years you are probably pretty adept. Leave that school and train in another discipline, and once you have some funds go back and cross train at your former school.

Maybe you'll get lucky and buy a supplement tainted with peds which will help your recovery.
Seems to happen to pro fighters non-stop!

my 2 cents:

If you can only do three sessions a week, dont split it between multiple disciplines. You'll dilute it to such an extent that you will barely progress with any of them.
If you feel you've reached a certain base level with one (usually it takes at least 2-3 years MINIMUM) you can set it on the backburner and take up something different.
You would need to be at a place where it becomes second nature so that you wont lose 80% of your skills in a month if you walk out the door.

I dont think you ever can/will/should feel "comfortable" in a self defence situation, because generally you cant have a very good idea exactly what that situation is with regards to weapons, someones buddies or whatever.

i had like maybe 8-9 years of judo, then transitioned to kickboxing for roughly a year. That year was more or less wasted, i developed more bad habits than good ones.
Then moved on to mma and bjj, progressed with both and the solid judo base i feel defines me and helps me tremendously

Do an MMA with strikes class 2 or 3 days a week. Literally mixes up everything and teaches you how to blend them together. Solely training in one discipline is going to be disadvantageous unless you want to compete in that sole discipline.

Just train UFC bro and you'll be fine.

thanks guys for advices

MMA would be a good solution but it's almost non existing in my country. 90 % of people don't even know what MMA is and those few who have heard about it think MMA = UFC

Specialists had their time in MMA, but nowadays you have to be competent everywhere.

Maia is a great example. He will make you his bitch if he can get you down, but if you can keep it standing he Has limited options.

If I had to pick one Art form to be a master of, it would have to be Combat Sambo. Mix of striking, wrestling, and submissions...

As in three full days where you can spend several hours training, or as in the best you can do is an hour and a half three times a week?

running is the best self defence tool.

training a martial art will ingrain habits that don't always work in a self defence scenario. you get used to a certain "cleanliness" that is just not there in the streets. what it makes is it gives you self confidence where if you're not a dick about it people will just not pick a fight with you. if shit happens, then it makes you able to give them a good punch then resort to running away.

on the other hand if you throw a half assed punch at someone and they're not impressed by it it will just make them more angry and more keen on attacking you. anyway it's a lose-lose situation. you can either get your ass kicked or kick someone's ass and then regret what you done or even get into law trouble.

learn martial arts for health, confidence, fun. not for self defence.

Id scrap your judo at this point and get into boxing and BJJ.. Two days boxing One day bjj...next week start with Two days bjj and One day boxing ..

that way you have three days in a row of each ..
