Marlon vs Cory - Why did they stop the fight?

If it was early then why did marlon stay grounded for a bit and get up on shaky legs when he did, also with no protest. He was done.

Marlon was also already slightly rocked from the question mark kick that landed just before- the one that prompted sandhagens corner to say that Marlon's orbital was bust.

Some of you have absolutely no idea what you're watching.

Sure he was wobbled, but since when has getting wobbled been the deciding factor in an MMA match?

Marlon was composed enough to create distance so he could regain his composure, hence the back roll. Creating space is a common reaction for people who just got rocked or don't like their current position.

What's not common is for a ref to intervene when the fighter is intelligently defending. By definition, that is not a TKO. You should really learn the rules if you're going to claim we don't know what we're watching.

The ref got really lucky Marlon didn't protest.

Stoppage was alright! No need to shit on Goddard for this.

Speaking of refs. That other dude who is currently on every Fight Island card... he is "how not to referee a fight" - making stupid comments to the fighters and yelling "this is a fight" inbetween WTF you kidding me?

Yea, not shitting on the ref. honestly I didn't look at the ref's face or mention his name. I'm just trying to see if someone can provide a different perspective or share a new rule...

Big John used to count the # of strikes a fighter took without reacting.
OR he'd say the fighter was not intelligently defending.

But in this instance, I don't see any reason why the ref would stop the fight.

No one was saying that being wobbled ended the fight.

The fight was ended cos marlon was wobbled from a headkick, then got kicked in the head again, went down, then was punched in the face while flailing his arms in an untrained way i.e. not intelligently defending himself.

The ref wasn't 'really lucky marlon didn't protest' because marlon wasn't even able to get straight up on to his feet to even mount a protest, and when he did eventually get up he was still on wobbly legs.

If anything marlon should be thanking the ref that he stopped him receiving any unnecessary damage to appease people that think you need to be knocked fully unconscious before a fight is called.

You're watching a sport, not a fucking claude van damme film

It's okay. Marlon didn't protest anyway. Besides it's all good. This pretty much secured the sterling vs yan fight. That's all that matters. Marlon vs cory was a had faith booking to allow Marlon to skip sterling. It failed miserably. I'm happy. Marlon will be alright. He's also a top shelf bantamweight. Maybe one day he'll get a chance to avenge this... Man fuck it Marlon got fucked up. Done being gracious. He got fucked up and the ref saved him. Periodt.

It’s a back roll lol, it’s literally done at the beginning of almost every BJJ class as a warm up and to break falls.

really train at att?

I think because Cory said "broken orbital bone" (And you can see there was some swelling under that eye.) I think the ref heard/noticed that which influenced him to be more quick to respond if Marlon got in trouble.

naw never been. Always was a camp i was interested in. Hows the crowd for the casual sports hobbyist there?

If you’re just wanting to train casually while using a top notch facility and meeting Pro Fighters along the way (some actually run classes or participate in general classes, cool if you wanna roll/chat etc)there’s no place better than ATT.

If you’re serious about becoming a pro fighter or developing high level skill from scratch, I wouldn’t suggest it. You’ll get lost in the sea of talent, other fighters who’ve traveled from all over the world to train, established/ranked fighters, and even people who pay for private classes etc. It’s better off for Pro fighters with a base who can use world class coaches/training partners to take that next step in the game.

This stoppage doesn't make any sense to me.

Cory performed an awesome spinning back kick that clips Marlon and Marlon goes down.

But Marlon is not out...instead he does a back roll to get to his knees.

Cory follows up with a right hook and gets into side mount. And lands one or two more.

Marlon still isn't out, he reacts by creating space by moving his elbow and legs between them, and is switching to guard or butterfly guard...then the fight is stopped.

Why would any ref stop the fight at this time??

Does anyone else think this is shitty reffing?
thank you. bullshit stoppage.

You guys always complain about any stoppage.

Maybe Marlon didn’t protest immediately because he’s a good sport and knows arguing won’t change the result?

"Flailing arms in an untrained way." You clearly do not train.

Marlon's back roll is deliberate. He even lowers the shoulder that he wants to roll over so he doesn't injure his neck during the roll.
When he's taking the follow up shots, he defends with his right arm and even pushes Cory's face away, while he simultaneously slides his left knee in between him and Cory to establish guard.

If you can't see the basics....You know very little about MMA.
