Just looking at his record, all the names that he has fought pretty much every single opponent is somebody big in mma except for maybe his first few fights. He did go on a 6 fight losing streak mid career but it was against fucking killers. (But he also had 2 early wins over prime Wanderlei Silva and CroCop in PRIDE. O.o) Then, when people thought he'd be finished in the UFC (The UFC guys asked him if he just wanted to quit, but had a few fights left on PRIDE contract and refused) he goes on to make vast improvements in his game and knocks out the likes of Kongo, Struve, Nelson, Silva and now Mir. Crazy stuff.

If you look at the name of all of his opponents, it's hard to deny that this guy has had one of the toughest mma careers. Agree?

Guy went from getting his shit snapped by Sean fucking McCorkle to putting together wins and only losing to tough ass competition. And he's still going at age 41.

Hunt Bless

Shameless plug, but his opponent last night has also had a gruesome lineup of opponents. Especially when you consider he came back from having his knee 100% destroyed. Mir and Hunt are both legends. Sucks someone had to lose yesterday.

Hunt has a total of THREE decisions in all of his MMA fights.

Win or lose, expect some fireworks! With that kind of style it's even more surprising to see him still plodding around at age 41. Realistically, it can't be too good for him... although he doesn't appear loopy

Damn right. Regardless of what you think of Mir and his personality, he's fought just about everyone, same as Hunt. Both guys deserve a tremendous amount of respect for that.

Fuck yeah, Batiatus is the shit.

Their records don't do them justice. It's just what happens when you only want to fight the absolute best fighters in the world.

( and Sean McCorkle and Ian Freeman :P )

He has really stood the test of time. Much respect to Mark Hunt

Yes.Plus he was in a motorcycle crash that almost killed him.....much respect to Murr

On top of his great success in mma, guy won the K-1 Grand Prix 2001, kickboxing's most prestigious honor. Truly a legend - probably the best fighter in UFC that has a large number of loses.

Mark Hunt really hasn't improved a lot since his pride days, his competition just got worse whenever he came over to the UFC. Like you said, most of his losses during that stretch were to straight fucking killers in their prime. There is really only one guy that beat him during that losing streak that I can say was a head scratcher. Beating Struve, Nelson, washed up Big Foot, and washed up Mir isn't really that crazy. Beating prime Cro-Cop and Wandy was crazy.

Mark Hunt has had a very good career when you judge it by his MMA & K-1 career. He was one of the very few kickboxers who had a winning record in MMA overall. He also had, without question, one of the most durable chins in the history of mixed martial arts. I will have fond memories of him, and this match against Tsuyoshi Kosaka which i shall post for you to view, will be my defining moment of him in MMA. He had utilized great boxing here and some absolutely fantastic sprawls....its also worth noting Kosaka's unbelievable moments of incredulous grit.

I love Hunt. He is a respectable guy. Seems great in and out of the octagon.

But I think he may be more tree than man.

He is a fucking freak of nature, I hope to see more walk away KO before his retirement, he is probably the nicest dude in all mma

The way he won his UFC fights definitely bolsters his legacy. Bad ass displays of dominance.First to KO Kongo and Nelson.

Not to mention the adversity that Mir and Hunt have had to endure.
That ruthless upbringing of Hunts, and the Crash that stripped Mir of his title. that shit is hard to come back or build your self from.

Don't get me wrong, I agree with you there. I just don't think he's improved that much as a fighter. Like TS was saying, he just fought a murders row at the beginning of his career. I think Kongo and Nelson are solid wins, but nothing more than that. Struve sucks and Mir/Silva were beyond done when he fought them. As time goes on, the win that Hunt has to hang is hat on in the UFC is looking like Rothwell. That win just keeps looking better and better as Rothwell works his way up to another title shot.

His only recent losses are w top 5 ranked HWs: JDS, Stipe, and Werdum. He always find ways to fight top contenders because mediocre gate keepers don't stand a chance against him
