Manon win has too many asterisks, so Erin should get the titleshot

Who should get the titleshot

I mean that's a lot of "Not impressed blah blah blah" we see whenever there's a new WMMA contender; I don't put much stock in it personally. Plenty of people in that thread seem to be supporting Manon in any case. For the record I was hoping Manon would put a bigger stamp on it than she did, but pointing out areas where she looked a bit lackluster even in a winning effort is a very different thing from saying "Nah, shitty fight, no title shot for you".

Erin's win over Taila has been highly contested by many people as well, so it isn't like she gets a free pass for barely beating someone coming off a loss with more than a year in between fights. See what I did there? Nitpicking.

I would give it to Manon Fiorot for two reasons:

1. She should've already been fighting for the title, due to her win over then clear cut #1 Katlyn Chookagian.

2. Namajunas, Chookagian, Maia > Santos, Andrade, McCann.

I personally just hope the UFC isn't stupid enough to book them against each other. Why deny either one of them from a title shot, when not long ago the division was starving for new talent?!

In a couple of weeks Valentina will get the title back. Grasso does not deserve a rematch, so they can give the next opportunity to EITHER Blanchfield or Fiorot to keep it moving.
Manon also beat Mayra Bueno Silva, who has since moved up to beat Holly and become #3 BW

Also, Dreyga is full of shit because "too many asterisks" and "not impressed" are very clearly 2 different things

I mean, I wasn't particularly blown away by Manon's performance against Rose so if one is inclined they could file me into the "not impressed" crowd, but by the same token I would never say she shouldn't get a title shot. If anything I think she has the best claim for getting next. *shrug*

I don't really care who gets it next. It won't change much.

If Fiorot gets it, my guess is it will be Val defending, and given all the holes in Manon's game, I expect her to get dismissed.

Rose couldn't capitalise because she was fighting one-handed, but imagine what Val will do with all these openings (this was all rd3 btw):

If Grasso somehow manages to defend, I think that Fiorot will beat her. Alexa doesn't have Rose's footwork or defensive movement, so she will be there to get hit. She might still be able to win rounds down the stretch, as Manon fades and gets sloppier, but I expect that she will be too far behind at that point.

If Blanchfield gets the shot first, I think that she'll have a hard night either way: Val is dangerous and hard to outpoint over 5, Alexa is not going to be easy to take down and on the feet, Erin is not on her level.

Precisely

Used to be the case that a person who could wait for a shot or take another fight, the risk was being rusty for the title or losing the stay-busy fight. Apparently now, the risk is, not winning it good enough. Fiorot already earned the title shot, then had to get knee surgery and even specifically said that Val will likely get booked, so she'll probably have to get another fight due to timing and would have liked to have fought Grasso. But Grasso got the shot and won, and Fiorot fought again and won, but fuck her, right? What is the point at this point? Why even fight? Even formerly semi-decent fans are now sitting here basically saying wins don't matter.

Erin Boringfeld as champ would be the worst thing to happen to wmma

Both Erin and Manon's last wins were shit.

If I had to pick one though, I'd say give it to Manon just based on her having beaten more higher quality comp lately.

Before she beat Santos, Erin was just feasting on cans like Mav, Molly, the ghost of Andrade, and JJ. And against JJ she looked shit.

Manon had at least beaten Chook, Maia, and Cheatara, who are all way better wins than what Erin had before beating Santos.

Kinda prefer to see a stand up battle with Fiorot, than watch Blachfield try to wall and stall for 5 rounds.

Popular opinion seems to be that there were too many variables for people to give Manon credit for beating Rose. The size, the finger break, no Trevor Whittman, etc

Since very few are convinced of the win the Blanchfield should be the obvious choice as next title contender

What day you?

This is easy.

Manon was ahead of Erin in the rankings, and Erin fought first.

Erin's job was to put pressure on Manon's top contender status with a rip-roaring win of epic proportions.

She came up slightly short in that regard, so has in no way deposed Manon as top contender.

Fiorot is boring. Blanchfield has a bit more intrigue despite her last fight

No way people actually think Manon should get it over Erin.

If Valentina wins, they should do Shevchenko vs Graso III.

Fiorot and Blanchfield should face each other for the next title shot after that.

Please no more rematches

Loser of Shev/Grasso 2 fights Manon

Winner fights Erin or visa versa

That is better

I've got an idea that is fair. It's like a bet. WHOEVER wins Grasso/Val, Manon fights Grasso, so we get or force a nice hands fight, and Erin fights Val, so either Val has patched up some of that grappling defense or Erin can take advantage of her.

Whoever happens to be the champ, we still end up with the better fights.

Or we just go with Manon since she's clearly the number 1 contender and already earned that

I think Rose looked really good against Fiorot. Rose has no business at that weight class though, unless she bulks up big time.

I think Rose would piece up Weili again in the striking with her hands if she goes down to strawweight again. Weili would need to enforce wrestling dominance in that fight. Really hope they fight again, and Weili wins the 3rd fight. Weili needs a new boxing coach, that's the glaring weakness in her game.

The hype for Fiorot just seems so fake. She’s just another version of Holm and Chookagian, but for some reason people really want her to get a title shot <Fedor23>

You a Saints fan now with that "day"?

Love me some Blanchfield, either way she'll get here shot eventually, she's young as hell (24).

I guess Rose needs to beat SOMEONE to fight Zhang again, just cuz of her current momentum, but I think it's still easy to favor her in the trilogy.

Maybe they do Zhang-Yan and Rose fights Suarez? That would be a huge feather in the cap for Suarez or Rose proves she can get past a wrestling threat when she's on her game. And if she does, then I'd find it hard to argue Zhang has any advantage over Rose

Fuck, maybe it's got to do with the whole "earning it" thing. I mean, probably not, but if that's not it, then I'm out of ideas.

And the champ just sits on the shelf for a year??

Ridiculous!! We deserve active champions.

We have viable contenders. The champion should fight the one with the stronger argument.

In this case Erin

Hey buddy, remember this?

Good Point. Neither has really separated themselves though.

It would be a shame if the title fight in two weeks ended controversially, and we needed a third rematch.
