Man stands up to system and wins.

So I'm guessing those pigs didn't face any consequences for their unconstitutional and illegal tactics displayed in the video.

It's always, "Well I don't know if you're dangerous, maybe you're a killer. I have to do this for officer safety." Yeah, we don't know if you're a criminal either, officer. Maybe you guys murdered two cops and stole their uniforms and scout car! The unreasonable suspicion is an excuse to bend the rules.

The toughest part about it is that sometimes this behaviour leads to good arrests. The officers will find somebody with drugs and illegal guns and take that person off the street. Then the defence argues the search was illegal, the real criminal gets off, and I'm sitting here angry at the defence instead of the prosecution.

Police use that ideology a lot when justifying their blatant disregard for the rights of civilians. Officers like them will actually try to get you to break the law. It's fucking crazy.

This case is a prime example of how police will actually attempt to make a law abiding citizen into a criminal. That's like a doctor trying to make you sick. It's absolutely backwards...

Jesus that was crazy. The cops and the prosecutor should lose their jobs.

What is going on with this thug culture?

It's getting pretty bad...

I think we would all agree that we would rather have our car stopped by two gang-bangers in inner-city Detroit than by two policemen in rural Alabama.

This guy mostly made his point and thinks he did it for $5. Seems as thought he missed at least 2 days of work in the process, and who knows how many hours sitting in the court/DA office when it would have been simpler to been a little more cooperative with the cops to begin with.

Yes- I'm a bad patriot.

It obviously wasn't about money. It was about standing up for what's right and not allowing himself to be bullied by corrupt cops. He out-smarted them, didn't let them push him around, and now he doesn't have to live with any shame or regret about it. Clearly to him it was worth the time.

The more people bend over and take it in the ass, the more this kind of shit will happen.

So basically nothing happened in the end.

No charges or anything for anyone.

Good for him but I bet this guy would be a real pain in the arse irl. That in no way means I think the cops were right.

The thing I was most curious about was why pull over on the side of the road and switch drivers? Why not pull into a gas station or some other business to do it?

That would've prevented all of this IMO.

^^^ yea it's weird that he didn't address that in his video, and instead focused on the cops attempt to illegally search his vehicle, and the completely bogus citations he was given.

I'm not telling anyone anything here they don't already know, but.....

If it were a person of color that had been pulled over, things would've been starkly different.

You hating on someone for knowing he's right and defending it?

He said his wife was tired so they probably thought it was best to switch as soon as possible.

The cops probably would've shot him and got two weeks paid vacation.

Actually, the prosecutor was fired. Technically, they decided "not to renew his contract", but his ass got fired. From the link above, it sounds like there might be a lawsuit.

I'm not positive, but I seem to recall seeing somewhere that the two officers are no longer with the department either.

Plus, IMO the biggest result, an innocent man didn't have to pay several hundred dollars on some bullshit charges. If he chose to spend his valuable time and efforts to clear his name, that's his prerogative. It might have been less expensive to just bend over and pay the fines, but I applaud his decision. From the buzz generated by the video, I think a lot of people feel the same way.

You mean in the sense that, in addition to getting the charges dropped, the person of color would be looking at a huge discrimination lawsuit pay day?

If rural Texas is like some parts of rural California, he might be far from the next station.

Man, did none of those fools realize they were on camera?

I'm sure it was, but it isn't smart or very safe to do it on the shoulder IMO.

She didn't just suddenly get tired. :(
