Social Man, Reddit sucks!

The major subreddits are cesspools but some of the smaller ones are nice. Like, if I wanna talk about different types of gin I'm not gonna make an account on some dead messageboard devoted to gin, and a thread here (or the general sections of other large messageboards) may collect some interest but that's really relying on luck since that's obviously not the main purpose of these boards. Discord is better for shitposting than serious convo; so there's a subreddit I can pop into and talk gin whenever. Same with video games that are either smaller or older titles, or music subgenres.

But regardless there's always gonna be circlejerking and the reddit brand of humor can be rather cringe but that's whatever.

r/mma is pretty solid. They get those .gifs up 2 seconds after the fight is over.

So... You're saying they have nugget porn? Have a hard time tracking down any volume...

TLDR: Reddit is just a giant website of Agent Smith-like clones who all say the same things and harshly punishes and ostracizes non-conformity.

Man, Reddit ain't shit..

Okay, let me be fair. Like anything else, obviously it has a lot of redeeming aspects, otherwise it wouldn't be so popular.

Reddit's selling feature is the fact that it has a subreddit (category) for any interest you can have under God's green Earth. Basketball? Got that! MMA? Got that! Underwater Hockey? Got a sub for that... seriously, they do!
So you can find wholesome content, interests that you otherwise wouldn't find a forum for, good and niche porn (or so I heard!!!) and if you cannot, you can create a sub for said content. Basically, it's greatest strength is that everyone can find a community of interest, or even be introduced to one!

Now... What pisses me off about it... is that EVERY FUCKING SINGLE PERSON HAS the same Cot damn opinion... on EVERYTHING! On some Twilight Zone shit.

Every one of them... to the point where you don't know if they are bots or not!

The site is structured in such a way to reward conformity... If you say something people like you will get upvoted and your comment rises higher and higher... people can even reward you if you give a popular answer. If you say something distasteful or unpopular, you sink to the bottom. As a result, people will keep saying the same things over and over and over again (circle-jerk, echo-chamber, etc.) to get karma (imaginary internet points... sorta like Sherdog likes). This will make even a sub created for unpopular opinions end up being a bunch of people saying popular things that everyone already agrees with...

The site also has a very, Very, VERY!!!!!!! strong left lean, politically. And everyone agrees with each other on every political opinion that is associated with the left.

Reddit a few years back even created a site-wide bot that banned people from (I'm guessing thousands of) subs if you were not pro-vaccine.

I just go on it and it's the same shit: Keanu Reeves this, Dolly Parton that! Ermagherd Doggies, so cute... Incel, Incel, Incel! Who hurt you baby? Ohmergerd I hate Kardashians! Generic Donald Trump diss... Antivaxxer idiot! Incel Incel Incel... I hate Uber drivers talking. Donald Trump. Keanu Reeves Cool!
<FutbolThink>

They also have an obsession with flat-Earthers. Why the fuck do people get off on a sense of intellectually superiority to people who are still stuck in the 15th century? What a low bar to get pride from.

Lastly, Mods can power-trip anywhere, but Redditors mods are renowned for being power-tripping dicks. Many subs are trigger happy and will ban anyone who offends their delicate egos.

Sherdog is far from perfect, but at least there is SOME level of discourse here. Hell, that's what the War Room is about. Sure, people devolve into insults (that happens anywhere), but at least folks disagree with each other and can have discussions. Knowing everyone will agree with you hinders discussion. If they're wrong but don't have a reasonable explanation, they will just downvote you to death with no explanation... maybe ad hominem here and there, but that's it.

Anyway, thoughts about Reddit?

It’s great for porn

just like twitter, i only use reddit for porn.

Reddit is good for some things but it's definitely inferior to sherdog.

It makes me sad to see forums dying. There's something special about talking to the same group of people over and over. We're almost friends.

Not a good place if you are looking for peoples pure ideas and opinions. Reddit is proof that some peoples opinions come more from how they think it will fit into the social norm rather than how much of it they actually believe.

I tried going on Reddit a couple times but that whole up voting bullshit and then sub comments branching off from other comments nonsense and everything turning into a giant spiderweb makes it impossible to follow a conversation, give it to me nice and simple like Sherdog does and ole Pete is happy as a clam
You have dumb side comments upvoted to the top that you have to scroll past with all their replies below them. You throw in ANYTHING differing getting downvoted to hell and you have a very cult like system.

I don’t give a shit, if my opinion on something gets downvoted oh well at least I’m not a sheep that thinks everything so and so does is perfect. Having karma might be the dumbest shit ever because it breeds conformist nature.

Also TIL (Reddit for "today I learned").
There is a thing such as underwater hockey

Get the puck outta here !

SubReddits sound pretty cool - goats in wigs has got to be popular.

Reddit is anti freedom of speech. Any opinion or thought that doesn't appeal to the majority is downvoted and then hidden from view.

Think its like anything, gotta find the stuff you want or like.
I enjoy alot of it. UFO communities, true crime, askreddit etc

I dont see alot of the things people bitch about, but I dont seek it.
Same with people complaining about the algorithms or seeing up setting/triggering shit on bookface, youtube etc. mines all just filled with things I like. Boobs, Music, basketall and ufos.

Most sites (not particularly reddit) will show you things that you interact with or have interacted with in the past. So its really most peoples own doings.

Need to find some niche subforums on Reddit to get any value out of it. All of the default ones are giant cesspools.

Reddit stinks for general conversation, but when something pops off in the world it's useful.
