http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/northamerica/usa/9806921/Computer-programmer-outsourced-job-to-China.html

The software developer, who is in his 40s, is said to have paid a Chinese firm a fifth of his six-figure salary to do his job for him while he spent his working days surfing the internet.

The tale emerged via a blog by an computer forensic investigator at Verizon Business, a US-based communications firm.

Andrew Valentine claimed that his company had been contacted by another US-based firm, whom he does not name, who feared their systems were being hacked after noticing that someone in Shenyang, China was accessing the system.

According to Mr Valentine it became apparent upon investigation that one of the company's employees had outsourced his own job, paying a Chinese firm approximately $50,000 (

Worth mentioning that he was consistently reviewed as the best developer in the company.

His main job was for Verizon as a programmer. Spent his time on reddit, cat videos, ebay and facebook. He out sourced his work to a Chinese firm for 50k a year and pocketed 200k. He psychological profile was that of a man who wouldn't stand out in a crowd, quiet, mild mannered and a family man.

The guy no longer works for them, did he get fired once he was found out?

Is he facing legal trouble?

If not this story is awesome.

That's awesome.

The dude deserve a Nobel, just discovered the best utilze of male chinese population and the way to resolve the fact that boring work steal most of your life-time

Too bad he spent that time on teh internet, if was a work-from-your-house job and he pass his days on the beach with bitches, he was the new hero of human kind

Boss, but should have browsed the web in incognito mode.

I wonder if they hired the chinese company for the same price as they guy was paying them. Or maybe even less, lol.

I agree this story is funny, but in all seriousness his days must have gone by so slowly...

From my personal experience (15+ years working as a computer programmer), the days go by much quicker when you are busy working for 8 hours than when you are surfing the web for 8 hours.

Wasn't this the subject of that Tim Ferriss self help book 4 hour work week?

oops my bad, behind the times as usual.

I'm just trying to bring back the old "use the search function!" attitude. I read that some people were complaining. :icon_lol:

I still find it an inspiring story.

His boss was like "Only the Sr managers are allowed to outsource all their work and responsibility while they sit around and do nothing."

This is what i mean, the slavery is'nt the work itself, it's the time of your life you must sacrifice for it, and he did'nt escaped from that :icon_chee

If you do that on a work-from-your-house-job, you discovered the ultimate bug and you win the freedom

If you do that but still you've to be there 8hx5d at week, you're still in jail
Only difference is that you have freedom illusion and you risk to get your ass fired
