It's about how Kal El/Superman becomes Clark Kent.
Sounds like a wild idea but hear me out.
There's been this belief that Clark Kent as a meek reporter is the real costume and Superman is the real person. Bill even explains this in detail in Kill Bill volume 2.
Man of Steel shows Kal El growing up, not feeling like he fits in, anxious to use his powers for good, but has always been a loner, outsider, aimless.
A bunch of stuff happens, he finds his clothes, information on his origin, and he also finds his purpose. He then finds a disguise so he can fit in with the daily life in Metropolis at the very end of the movie: meek Clark Kent the reporter from Daily Planet.
