Man arrested after escaping prison.....50 years ago.

Another dangerous criminal off the streets.

I think they did the right thing.
I also think he should be pardoned quickly.

Robbery by force, escaped from prison?
Serve your fucking time.

Paying people to hunt down, capture, prosecute, and then house, feed, guard this old guy, that's what we should spend tax money on? Maybe spend the money on eliminating poverty, and people wouldn't rob one another.

Give him probation and let him be done with it.

Lol @ making an analogy to a slave.

Ridiculous. The guy broke the law. You shouldn't get special treatment because you're old. Fuck him.

Shortsighted thinking. I understand your position but what exactly will anyone gain by putting him back in jail?

Maybe they should talk to the victim if they are still alive and see what they think.

He got to spend the good years of his life outside prison, and then some. Even if he goes to prison now, that's nothing short of a big win for him.

Hope he gets released. I understand the reasoning behind his arrest. You MUST go through the motions of Justice, at least. Still, it is pointless to use money to keep him in jail. Just take most of his money. It's not really Justice, but Justice is almost impossible at this point.

So TS, what is the cut off age that they shouldn't be able to send an escaped prisoner back to jail? How many years does it take of running to get a get out of jail free card.

The problem is if they dont send him back to jail it sets a very bad precedent. You cant have inmates thinking if they escape they wont have to go back.

And people on this forum think I'm a liberal!

What will be gained is showing that justice was done. When you're given a sentence, you serve that sentence. Putting him back in is a sign that you can't escape justice, not even if it's been many years and you're not a threat anymore. You did your crime and you must do your time, regardless of age, sex, race, or anything else.

Well that sounds like a good precedent you're setting. Escape prison when you're young and we'll give you immunity if you can evade the law for a majority of your life?

I feel for the guy, but his age has absolutely nothing to do with not serving his sentence OR escaping prison which is, in and of itself, a separate crime.

If law enforcement learned his whereabouts and did NOT arrest him, what is that saying about law enforcement? That they can pick and choose which criminals to arrest based on their own subjectivity or guidelines? Because that sounds lovely.

They don't go into details, apart from 'robbery by force'
I wonder what happened.

The old guy sounds like he's turned over a new leaf. Rehabilitated, if you will.

I'll take a rehabed felon over a punished one. Improving society is a better goal than seeking vengeance. Especially after 50 years. I'd let him walk after a fine.

And you don't let yourself out of that time.
The only ones to do so are the authorities who put you in.
