Consider that this dude retired 36-4, with all 4 losses coming to either current or future champions and all-times greats in Hughes, GSP, BJ and Frankie... And he was once champion himself.
History has not given him the recognition he deserves. Very underrated career, imo.

A superfight should be when 2 long reigning champs finally meet. Islam just won the title and suddenly fighting the champ 1 class down is superfight?

I agree that the conditions are not ideal.
But the way I see it, it serves two purposes:
1. Volk, the dominant champ, gets his well-deserved shot at a second belt.
2. Islam, the seemingly dominant new champ, gets his shot at the #1 p4p spot that was vacated by his coach/friend/teammate/bräther, Khabib.
It's not ideal, but they both have their reasons for accepting (and wanting) the fight.

I love this matchup, Volk is more of a challenge than Dariush (he's so fucking slow), Volk will have the speed advantage and idt he's that much smaller than Islam, BUT I'd still favor Islam, his grappling is just insane, hopefully Dariush gets the winner
