I understand it is the fight game and all BUT, this keeps on happening and the UFC is left scrambling to find someone semi-ready to jump in there.

Wouldn't it be better for everyone, mostly the people who buy the live event tickets and are stuck with them, to have a back up main event? For instance, pay 2 guys 30% of their normal fight pay, just to be ready in case.

There is no way they are gonna find a comparable fight in time now.....It is a good thing that PPV's can be bought last minute BUT, it is still messed up how the PPV promos will STILL read Jones vs. Cormier until the day of purchase. They are too cheap to reshoot the promo and some casual fan is gonna be duped, I know it!

That's a pretty good idea. But if the money is right, they can get a fighter to fill in anyway without having to pay them to be ready.

Yeah they should select a few fighters, 1 or 2 from each division and give them contingency contracts to always be ready if they're needed.

Dana should be made to fill in as the replacement for all injured fighters, even if it's multiple fights on the same card...

That'd teach 'em

The ufc will not pay people for potentially not fighting (if the main event guys are healthy and the backups weren't needed) plus guys aren't gonna wanna stay in training camp mode for a small percentage of pay for a fight that might not happen. It's a cool idea in principle.

They should have had Rumble vs someone on the card then u just bump rumble up there.

But what i would personally like to see is Jones vs a top 15 hw.Have him fight Barnett or Big country

I reckon for the big events like UFC 200, 196 or 197, it would make financial sense to pay one fighter to stay in shape for a last minute call up. Having the headline fight go from DC-Jones 2 to Johnson-Cejudo is an absolute killer.

I think most fighters would really only like to go through a full training camp if they're actually going to fight at the end of it, rather than just be a stand-by. It's a lot of effort and physical prep for a "maybe", and it's just as easy for a backup to get injured as one of the main fighters, too. Also, how much gameplanning and strategy are you going to do, and who for?

Remember, the fighters are working for themselves, to advance their own position. They're not doing it "for the good of the company".

I think if you always have the title shot and the fight for the next shot on the same card, you got it covered. In case shit happens, you just use one of the guys from the co-main.

It'd probably be difficult to get both headline fighters to agree to fight another guy, whose style could be completely different from their current opponent. Also, if a title is on the line and the Champion drops out most contenders would probably drop out rather than fight another guy.
