Main and Co-Main show why you don't take short notice fights above your weightclass

pretty sure both men got paid big bucks. for having a short camp against top competition, usman and volk were smiling way too much in media the days leading up to the fight. i suspect the fat check helped them justify putting their legacy on the line.

i was rooting for both too, however, i do not see a difference of outcome if it were a full camp.
usman is on the tyron woodley stage of his career with bad knees.... while volk (and no one else) stands a favorable chance against the khabib dagestani family tree.

big props to the champs for stepping up on short notice, I think they understood their fate but the money made it easier.

in general, this shows the UFC will sacrifice anyone not named Mcgregor to save the show. from the company's perspective, the show must go on and give the fans what they paid for. but from the talent perspective, gotta suck to know the company will put you in such unfavorable positions no matter how much you have given them.

don't get me started on how they pretty much bullied sterling and Adesanya to take fight after fight without adequate rest that past champs were privileged to.

ufc gonna ufc

islam called it

volk valued money over legacy. no excuses though. he signed up thinking he could win. and got flatlined in 1. full camp wouldn't have have saved him.

Volk is strong as fuck and as skilled as they come but he has no business at lw. He's too small man. I say that with respect as he'd likely take out a good few in the top 10 still. He's that good.
Usman, I don't think his stock took a hit today. I think if anything it rose a little. I kept saying it. Usman is not washed at all. Leon just has his number. Maybe khamzat too but it's not an excuse to call the truth. Usman had no real training camp. He still looked good in my opinion. Khamzat is a hell of a wrestler though. Strong as fuck. Tough. He deserves huge respect for accepting that opponent change so late too. Yeah he had a camp and in my opinion he gassed hard again which he has no excuse for. He just has shitty cardio I think. He done whay he had to do with minimal training for usman

Meeeehhhhh, those dudes are probably getting handsomely compensated for being company-men. Good for them; they’re prize fighters.

Why?

Usman is on bad knees in the wrong side of 35 with tons of mileage. Khamzat is just better period.

Alex got caught. Shit happens. His hand wouldn’t have been any higher in his guard if he had more time.

I don't know how long you've been watching MMA but I'm old enough to know that losses do not age well, regardless of their context, especially finish losses.

No one 10 years from now is going to say "Yeah Alex got KO'd by Islam, but he's small even for a LW and moved up to LW to fight a big LW on short notice"

Why? Usman was good. Volk just too small for Islam.
Volk looked like shit, he looked soft and turned red after the 1st wrestling exchange. The key to Volk winning most fights is ability to out work his opponent and out pace them.
