I don't think Rory could put Maia on his back but if he did, he wouldn't be able to hold him down. Fitch, who has a made career from holding people down, couldn't hold Maia down for very long before Maia stood up and took Fitch down.

Great matchup for Maia. He has more ways to win. Its possible Jake out works him in the stand up and wins on volume, but the reverse is also possible. In the clinch, Jake is in trouble. If Jake had a good enough double or single leg, he may be able to put Maia on his back a few times but I don't think he does. Both fighters aren't elusive enough to avoid the other's clinch (if one is set on clinching). So if the fight is going to be won in the clinch, I say it goes to Maia. He cruises to an easy decision or maybe even a submission.

Is it? I remember him as a clinch guy. He may occasionally drop to grab a single from the clinch but I don't recall him shooting in on singles. I could be wrong.

This is a great fight for Maia. Shields is a less dynamic version of Fitch (really, it's hard to believe but his fights mostly bear it out), I think Maia will do exactly the same thing to Jake that he did to Jon though a finish from strikes is more likely with Shields. I doubt Maia will submit him.

I think Shields is a better overall grappler than Fitch and won't be the easy out that Fitch was, though I agree there are similarities.

Everyone loves to shit on Shields' striking, but the fact is he puts out a good volume of strikes. Keeping it standing should not be Maia's plan, nor do I think it will be.
