I'd almost classify Maia's style as "greco, but cheating and using your legs". It looks like mostly smothering clinch with some footwork to assist, as opposed to the looser time-it-and-toss style of your classic judoists like Karo, Stun Gun, and others.
 
Fitch got Fitched!

This was why I always wanted this fight. One of them was going to do something like this to the other and it was probably never going to be terribly exciting, but I was so curious to find out who'd come out on top. Maia was so impressive in the context of that matchup.

He actually got warned very early on when he stopped a takedown (1:50 left in the first round. Loud verbal warning and a slap on the fingers). She just never really took it beyond that.

Maia never really got an RNC. He mostly just grabbed and janked a bit. Fitch didn't escape anything all that close. This time he actually decided to defend before the last 5%.
 
That was almost more impressive than a submission win, IMO. To take down Fitch at will and dominate the control like that... wow.

It's bullshit that GSP is wasting his time with Diaz. Maia vs. Hendricks or Rory, please.
 
I love how maia grinds out the master of the grind and in the third fitch throws up his hands in frustration and acts like if he were the one winning he'd have done things differently. WAR MAIA! WAR BJJ!

Maia has to be in the top 4 or 5. I'm even basing some of this on the very short DHK fight, which is just because of HOW Maia looked in the short time before the fight stopped. I also know it's MMA Math that Maia beat Rick Story, who has the only win over the true #1 contender at WW (Johny Hendricks).

You gotta put Maia in the top 5 after Fitch alone. He just Fitch'd the Fitch. I've said for years the only way that Fitch can lose is to GSP or someone with a really hard shot that connects like Hendricks. I had Fitch winning on my predictions, just because I thought Fitch would be able to outwrestle Maia and that his sub defense and incredible base would be enough to get him the win. Boy was I wrong. I was not expecting that from Maia at all. I've never seen anyone ever do anything like that to Jon Fitch, who has basically always been the #2 WW until 2012, and I don't think we'll ever see anyone do that to Fitch again. When you combine that with Maia's RNC/crank over Story and how he looked against DHK, I'd love to see Maia face the winner of Rory vs. Condit to be honest. I'd be happy with him fighting Ellenberger or Kos too.

Regardless I think in 2013 Maia climbs to the top of the division.
 
I would love to see Maia vs Condit and Maia vs Rory. I'm guessing he can fight either one, doesn't matter which one wins or loses because neither of the will be fighting GSP after.

I would prefer Maia fight Rory because I he seems like needs a beat down from a veteran lol.

A rematch w DHK would be nice too, just to shut up mu Korean homies lol.

One thing I dont want to see is Maia vs Kos, not right now anyways. That fight might be similar to Maia vs Fitch and I don't want main stream fans to start calling him a wet blanket or something.

One last thing: Maia's stand up from half guard and clinch in third round was a thing of beauty.
 
Maia would get his shit pushed in hard by Rory. It'd be a massacre of superior boxing and GNP.

He should fight Ellenberger, Koscheck, or Kampmann.
