Maia Prayer Vigil

Come back with your shield or on it!!

it was nice to see this fire from maia. he needs to quit with the "i want to win without hurting my opponent" bullshit. this is mma not bjj.

also nice to see him take some punches and be a man. that nate fight was a lucky shot by nate.

I've seen some things online that said silva was taunting him with "Come on and hit me, playboy!" and "Where's your jiu jitsu now?"

Playboy in this context is something akin to calling someone a spoiled brat/bitch. Class divisions run deep in Brazilian culture.

im always for the underdog. and in this context silva is the underdog. he is the robin hood hero type. fuck playboys.

how much did silva make off the fight and how much did maia?

please post your stupid shit in the heavies.

What the fuck are you talking about? That was all technique timed perfectly. I understand it sucks when one of your favorite fighters loses; i'm a Ken Shamrock fan my self so trust me, I understand. But that's no reason to try to take away a good win from a good fighter.

i was a maia fan before last night, now i'm full on bandwagon driver. he showed a ton of heart and a hell of a lot more class the the champion did, that's for sure.

WAR MAIA!!!

anybody know how to convert this GIF into an AVI?
I'd love to show this Maia showcase to a bigger audience

just want to bump this to keep the faith alive

No doubt about it, Maia is the man. Lots of respect.

In breaking it down, I think what Maia is really lacking (in terms of his game, not mma as a whole) is the ability to press it up against the cage and work a strong clinch game. He's obviously got the takedowns and throws as he's shown against Chael Sonnen, but we all know is hard to impossible to take a guy down while he's back pedaling. Especially when he's throwing lightning quick counters at you.

The answer most good wrestlers seem to find against backpedaling strikers in mma is of course to press em up against the cage and take their time from there. Maia spent his time trying ot shoot in the center of the octogon without having the striking to set it up like GSP does. Of course, Andersons clinch game in a striking sense is absoultely lethal, so who knows.

I'm not a wrestler and thats just my take. Can't wait to see Maia's next fight tho.

I watched Maia press Sonnen and Miller up against the cage and take them down, not sure why he couldn't do it to Silva, except that Silva is a more dangerous striker and Maia couldn't get in range?

Good job to Maia! No sub but definitely a dominating performance. He looks a little more comfortable standing. Still dipping his head when he comes in but nothing too bad. Now he needs to work on his ground and pound to open guys up for subs. Miranda just kind of t-rex'd his arms to avoid sub opportunities and Maia couldn't really make it him pay for it.

Back on track!

Hell yeah, I love watching Maia and his game. Congrats to him.

We finally get to see a BJJ expert use BJJ in their matches. Andre Galvao, Jacare, Xande etc have been trying to turn into strikers for some reason.
