Maia Prayer Vigil

So you're saying there's a chance!

Solidly funny :icon_lol:

...Oh, and WAR MA

May the eternal power of the triangle be with thee, oh Maia, saint of the restricted cranial bloodflow!

Dear Maia,

Please do not let me lose this bet.

Amen

The Lord said:

“Behold, I give you the authority to trample on the Spider, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.”

Our Maia, who art on the ground,

Hallowed be thy Name.

Thy takedown come.

Thy sub be done,

In the cage as it is on the mat.

Give us this day our daily sweep.

And forgive us our taps,

As we forgive those who taps against us.

And lead us not into a guilliotine,

But deliver us from heelhooks.

For thine is the ground,

and the choke,

and the tapout,

for ever and ever.

Verbal submission.

There should be a thread for "Hall of Fame Postings." This one can be the first entry.

Fuck, I'm gonna have butterflies when it's time for these guys to fight.

As stupid as it is to say, I wish I could've rehauled Maia's standup style for this fight. I really believe the only style of striking for a guy like that is a hands glued to your face, shoulders shrugged, chin to your chest "Sean Sherk" kind of striking style.

I think he's being taught a "pro" style of standup with too much focus on timing and footwork that need to be abandoned for a simple philosophy of "keep him shelled up, keep him safe". In other words, we don't have 10 years to teach this guy to strike.

I just see him getting pot-shotted with that loose and easy posture he keeps. He doesn't have the skills to utilize it correctly. Unless everything has changed since the Miller fight, I see him getting butchered in a minute barring a kamikaze takedown.

Come on, Maia. Fuck I hope you did something magical in training.

I think Maia's downfall could be training with Wanderlei Silva. Wanderlei's wild style isn't exactly what I think would help him, but then again, this internet keyboard warrior doesn't know any better.

no, I think this keyboard internet warrior has some common sense. I don't know if Wand is Maia's primary standup coach or not. If he is, it explains a lot. There just couldn't be a wronger style to emulate...unless you've got a magic potion to drink and become a super strong crazy tough caveman.

I hope, really really hope that Maia subs Silva.

All I can say is War Fucking Maia. He was in there with a superior athlete in every way, he tried his damnedest. All I can say, is I gained all the respect for him in the world in the 5th. He was ready to go out on his shield. WAR MOTHERFUCKING MAIA

This. Maia is the man.

Maia dove for some takedowns, but gave them up and pulled guard immidiately - i didn't see any reason for him letting go of the TD so easily. Does anyone see something i don't?

Maia has my absolute and utter respect for this performance, however. I am 100% certain that his takedowns are the flipping bomb, and that he will sub precisely anyone willing to go into the cage and have an actual MMA match with him.

Maia went out like a true warrior. But Silva had his soul for the first 15 minutes of the fight. Props to Maia for taking it back, and coming out the sentimental winner in this fight
