Maia Prayer Vigil

dont remember that one though Ive wacthed that fight many times just to see him pass mout pass mount pass mount, will have to watch it once more...

Yes, great fight. I think it was the start of the 3rd round. Maia pulled guard immediately, went straight for the ashi garami position, and clearly had no intention of going for the leg lock and just took top position when LaFlare went to defend. Or at least that's how I remember it.

But I agree with you, he's not a leg lock guy and shouldn't play legs with Woodley.

And Rory.

rory made woodley look like an amateur.

Woodley has been fighting the same way he always has pretty much his entire career (which is why his fights have almost always been tentative snoozefests).

That is neat, very similar to how Marcelo Garcia does it.
Yes, very methidical. It's a pretty helpless feeling to be there. Marcelo put Ben Askren in all sorts of trouble from there. Here is how my old coach does it.

Trapping the hands is what I always look for, the problem is that it implies to use hooks instead of body triangle, the body triangle is an almost guarantee that you are at least winning the round, although, this may be changing if we take in count last Maia's fight. Kron uses hooks and his last oppoent turned into him 2 times in his last fight. Guys are way too good defending and turning in these times... That's the only problem i see with going for hand traps...

Yeah. Unless he has a Marquardt level implosion.
somehow i can't imagine it ending any other way than exactly that... i keep having stiffened robbie lawler flashbacks.

i hope you're right, though.

Man... I'm so sick of Woodley whining about having to fight the no. 1 contender. If Maia gets passed over for a "superfight" with GSP or Diaz I will be so pissed.

compared to woodley hendricks gsp he isnt i know you love your bjj and all but cant be delusional and think hes as strong as these muscle men

Welp, so much for that. Masvidal said Maia is physically the strongest man he's ever gone against on the mat.
