Maia Prayer Vigil

How would that work? I noticed he was pressing his forearm way in against DHK's floating rib when he took him down, but I've never heard of a rib lock before.

Possibly just a compression lock on the floating. Similar to doing it with your legs while someone is in your closed guard except Maia did it with a bear hug. I haven't seen the replay but if it was a rib lock, I'm guessing it was more of a compression lock.

Yeah, Maia himself has said that the injury was an accident.

But I'm wondering if, due to the awkward way Okami fell and landed, he got his ribs crushed in a manner similar to this technique:

Unfortunately I haven't been able to find any clips of the fight to re-watch.

Oh well, it was my supposition but the source was really good, but im guessing even top guys need to sell their products with a little spicing. Or maybe its a secret lol, too bad i wont have the money to go to that seminar sounds amazing.

Freak injury or not it was refreshing to see a Maia go straight for a TD, against a good judoka nonetheless.

Something more BJJ fighters in MMA should be doing.

Injury or not, Maia was going to sub him. Plus let us not forget he is also a Judo BB.

this would have been a good match to watch, too bad Kim quit because of a muscle cramp

I always root for Roger, in fact his fight starts in 30 secs! I don't think he gets as much recognition because he isn't in the big show yet.

Wow, Roger's GnP is actually doing some pretty good damage!

I almost shit my pants when Jardine rocked Roger in the third round.

Stop sticking your chin out Roger, just go out and clinch, no more standing.

Yeah I agree about his standup and inability to take a shot. It looked like Jardine kind of dazed him in the third round a fairly weak punch.

Even if Roger gets more experience with striking, I don't know if he has the quickness or athleticism to go very much further than Strikeforce. Hope he proves me wrong though.

I think Jardine being covered in blood affected the sub attempts and clinch stuff. But damn, Roger looks awkward going for takedowns and striking. He also has absolutely no head movement. Jardine stopped really attacking him after getting taken down in the first 2 rounds.

Maia said something real interesting in his post fight interview, he said he tried to kickbox a bit too much because he spent so much time on kickboxing, he lost his instinct as a grappler, he literally said "you are what you train", thus for Stungun he spent most of the time on grappling and ask Leozinho to be his coach/corner man,

I'm really gonna be praying with this one.

Demian Maia Meets Rick Story in 170-Pound Showdown at UFC 153 in Rio de Janeiro

My 2 favorite Welterweights going at it :C

Yeah, but before that is ADCC champion Vinny Magalhaes!

We have so many guys to root for now. We have Maia and Toquinho. Now, we're going to get Vinny and we also have that sick Judo/BJJ kid Jimy Hettes.

I love BJJ.
