So I play a bit of Madden (I don't really understand a lot of American football) and I usually play MLB and get records for sacks, now my friends tell me that MLB isn't supposed to be going for sacks but is supposed to be guarding his channel for passes and runners... What position should be getting the most sacks? as I wanna continue being a sack machine but am starting a new career tonight.

Defensive ends are the pass rushers, their only goal other than to get to the QB is to stop outside rushes on their side of the field.

Outside linebackers also get sacks but it really depends what formation your defense uses. A 4-3 defense ( 4 lineman and 3 linebackers ) the outside linebackers tend to do more zone coverages and man to man assignments on tight ends and sometimes slot wr's but in a 3-4 defense the outside linebackers main goal is generally to rush the quarterback. They will have some zone responsibilities also tho.

I would recommend DE if your looking to get to the QB as much as possible.

I won 4 superbowls with my MLB and doubled the record number of sacks for a season. But I want to actually understand the game now not just play like a lunatic. As every game we lost was solely because I wasn't in position.

Ya the MLB position is arguably the most important position on the defense, they generally get the most tackles on the team and shut down running backs ( not just from rushes, they also man cover running backs if they run routes out of the backfield which can KILL a defense if not defended properly ) and short throws over the middle of the field like slant and cut routes.

They also help double mid routes as they will cover under the WR and allow the DB to cover over them, which can effectively shut down even the best receivers.

That doesn't mean you can't rush the QB with them but I would do it only a handful of times per game.

I personally use cornerbacks because I like the challenge of shutting down the opponents best WR but they are a challenge too because one bad read and you can let up a TD, it takes a lot of practice to get great at that position. I mix it up sometimes and use DT so I can clog the middle and not allow running backs to get consistent yardage up the middle and also I can get to the QB sometimes and cause bad throws, that lead to interceptions, or get a sack.

The more you understand how the positions work the more fun the game is to play IMO, keep learning and you will be able to use any position and have fun with them. Where you using a created MLB or an actual player? Just curious.

Created bro, I've only started watching NFL this year and only started playing madden last year. It's been a tough learning curve but I wanted to understand the game I've seen so many movies about. I literally only know a few players like Matthews from Greenbay (cause I have his jersey) and I don't even know if he still plays, Myles Garrett from Cleveland (a freak of nature) and guys like Junior Seau. Other than that I'm a complete newbie to NFL or Football in general.

Gotcha, well I'm a huge sports fan and I follow every team in the NFL so I know most of the players. If you ever decide to make a team and do a fantasy draft ( my favorite game mode on madden by far ) just shoot me a message and I can help you out player wise on who would fit your style and what not at the positions.

Enjoy the game man!! Let me know if you need any more help

Cheers bro. I started a MLB last night and tried to run my channels found out it's a lot harder than it looks. Also started a quarter back and found that finding the open man and not panicking as a linebacker comes for you is harder than it looks lmao.

Oh ya for sure, oh have to go through your looks quick and not make the mistake of staring one WR down for too long. Look at your main WR first then 2nd then slot, when you start feeling the pressure check your TE as he will be your main safety net being a big guy with dependable hands and as a last resort look at your checkdown receiver which will be your RB going out on a short route. If nothing is available then scramble for a few yardage with your QB or run to the outside of the tackles and throw it away so you don't lose yardage.

Good luck man! Mastering QB is hard work, most people throw it deep a lot hoping for the best or they stare down one receiver in the hopes of them getting open eventually which is a huge mistake. Also NEVER decide who you are going to throw to before you snap the ball, a ton of people do that but that's a rookie mistake lol

The closest route to the QB is through the DT. Me personally I am a grunt and yes DEs are awesome but if you blow an assignment you can get gashed on running plays... I prefer to use teams that have a DT with at least an 80 overall....I have been very successful online using the Dolphins and trying to jump the snap with Suh....in order for me to even have a remote chance of winning I need to use DTs that can beast olinemen...Suh is perfect for me

I made a mobile QB to deal with my indecision, looking for mostly midrange shots, I did get off one 70 yard banger that led to a TD but that was a fluke. My biggest issue was picking my receiver before the play but now I've been trying to spot the open man (which led to 6 sacks in my 1st game....)

Ya I have Aaron Donald on a team and I do good with him, only problem is you regularly get double teamed and then chip blocked by the running back so you have to potentially get past 3 people to get a sack and that's plenty of time for the QB to get rid of the ball

Bro you want your DT to eat up 3 blockers!!!! Someone else should be unblocked on the way to the QB then

Ya once you get better at handling pressure by either scrambling or hitting your check down receivers you will be better off in the long run. You may get sacked more but you will throw a lot less picks and get more quality looks if you wait for the open man rather than stare down one guy or decide who your going to throw too before you snap the ball.

In a week or two you will be much better than you are now just due to practice and trial and error to see what works for you and you will have more fun playing the game. Keep me posted!

Ya I know that lol but he said HE wanted to get sacks with his guy, a DE is much better at that then a DT is

How long would you say it takes to read the plays and understand when they're throwing a screen pass or going to a hand off? Right now when I play I just try and guess with very little understanding of the plays other than the running routes.

Again the DT is closest to the QB...I guess it all depends on preference...it's easier for me to get to the QB with a DT....(I don't play anything but online ranked...have over 500 games played) best DTs for me

Suh
M.Wilkerson
J.Casey
D.Harrison
G.McCoy

Again, de's get more sacks. Like you said all a matter of opinion tho, I just think a new player would have a easier time getting past 1-2 guys rather than 2-3 and de's are faster. I'm a fan of the DT's myself, I use Donald, dareus, D. Shelton, D. Poe or linval Joseph it all depends on if in trying to clog the lane or get to the QB.
