Winter Soldier and Infinity War are MCU's best films but on a directional level, they're not even close to be on par with TDK, Inception or The Prestige.
It feels TVish, and lacks artistry but it's a great film, no doubt. Better than TDKR for sure, and around the same level of BB quality-wise even though i prefer TWS to it because of sheer entertainment value.
It's a great film, i do give it an 8.5
What would be your rating for mad max though, agree to disagree on that
That would be more understandable but i disagree, each to their own. Also, not sure what Marvel has to do with this thread.
Let's say, as we had already written before, that in normal scenes, in a banal field-reverse or in the direction of the dialogues, there is still a rather televised setting, with a frequent use of frontal medium planes without who knows what variations. It is also true that I go by heart, so anyway I could be wrong, I should review the film.
the close up at the beginning and then especially from 0:51 to 1:11 are very interesting to underline the conflict. The long shot from 2:36 to 2:54 is very beautiful, as is the smash cut, with slow motion of the crucial moment, when Bucky pulls out the arc reactor
In short, it's a mix of very good things and absolutely normal things, obviously the Russos have a long way to go to become great directors, but they have certainly done interesting things.
I do enjoy their films and they enterain me a great deal and tend to be usually action packed with good scripts and fun moments.
Another example, already posted above.
The change of focus from 0:46 to 0:50 to introduce the Winter Soldier is very cool (and Nolan also uses it in Rises, just as validly), as are the subsequent shots: a kind of subjective (also called POV shot) at 0:53, that shot from below at 0:54 to 0:55 , the alternation of front and side shots from 0:56 to 0:59.
Honestly, in this sense of television I see little, indeed, I see a typically television setting (which is not done on TV for reasons of means and timing) of shooting a scene from multiple angles and points of view and then taking advantage of these different shots. during assembly.
In short, as I have been repeating for some time, the statements on directing are not subjective, or I am analyzed even shot-by-shot, or they are mere points of view that with directing (which is a technical thing) have very little to do with.
Now, compared to Nolan's directing, there's a huge difference:
This scene feels stylized, personal, gritty, playing on both colors (orange/blue/white) and is actually a lot better paced, one thing that is very cool is the first shot to estabilish the setting at 0:00, then there is a change of focus when the background becomes visible,
at 0:17 and then a fast cut to the setting, so Bane comes out and punches some people, at 0:52 Nolan makes up a reverse field shot, so you see Bane from the other perspective, and then at 1:12 there's an angle shot at medium close-up to potray bane.
This is what i call good, directing, let me know if you need other examples.
One being shot in IMAX, and the other with arexa means they definitely had different tones and time because of the run-time, so Cap's film looks frenetic, meanwhile Rises looks tight but on a grand scale.
I'd have a hard time putting anything above either Raid movie as far as recent action flicks go. Certainly not Fury Road. There was some fun shit in it, but it wasn't really any more exciting than the average F&F installment.

I might feel differently about Fury Road if I saw it in theaters preferably IMAX
But Road Warrior had stunts that's tough to duplicate along with nudity and brutal old school bloody violence. Plus Mel > Tom

Nostalgia wants me to pick Road Warrior. I absolutely loved it and still do. Before I re watched FR last weekend I would have picked it; I'm going to have to go with Fury Road though. Not as good of a story or mood imo, but the action just blows you away.
