If you give Shogun the decision in their first fight, and give Lyoto the decision against Rampage and/or Davis you see Lyoto Machida ending his UFC career at LHW with an astonishing 18-2 record. (Officially 17-3). Either way, it was an incredible run.

He became the UFC LHW champion.
He gave seven undefeated fighters their first loss, he also beat 8 former champs.
The names he's beaten at LHW are all high level and almost all were in their prime when he did:

Bonnar, Frankling, Penn, Sokodjou, Ortiz, Thiago, Rashad, Shogun, Rampage, Randy, Bader, Dan Henderson, Phil Davis.

Indeed.
"Welcome to the Machida era, ladies and gentlemen"

I really enjoyed watching him fight.
I strongly suspect he could have comfortably cut to MW early in his career. Who knows how that would have been.

Machida had the invincibility aura during his run
Something not a lot of champs have. He beat top top competition on the stand up and barely getting hurt in any of such fights
He was usually undersized in such fights
A beast. Best karate fighter in mma history.

yes, if you turn any fighters losses into wins, their record looks more favourable. If you turn his loss to Weidman into a win, he would have been champion. Hell, he could be undefeated if you remove his losses altogether ;)

proceeds to include Shogun AND Rampage and Davis in victories list. Can’t have it both ways ffs lol

Favourite fighter. His run to the apex of his career was awesome

I just watched his title fight with Jon Jones, and he was fighting really good, until Jones caught him in a standing guillotine, chocked him unconscious, and dropped him like a sack of potatoes! He was an interesting fighter to watch, and I really enjoyed his UFC career.
