Machida possibly past his prime?

Well said. He lost a good fight to a very skilled fighter. We even saw a new "brawler" side to Machida in the last 2 rounds that we haven't really seen before. So in a sense you could say he's evolving in some ways. Yes he's getting older but I don't think it's justifiable to say he's past his prime just yet. Can't wait to see him fight again soon.

I agree. I was pulling hard for Weidman to win. I'm Glad that he did. I still think that machida is a top mw talent. He dug deep in the 4th and went for it. He fought hard and lost. It happens to guys that fight top talent. I don't know how that equates to him now being past his prime. Machida would probably still put on a clinic against most of the mw division.

Everybody Weidman beats is old and past their prime.
The amazing thing is the timing. Some of the same people that predicted him KOing Weidman will undoubtedly be among those that now agree he is past his prime. I guess someone's fight career ages in 25 minutes or less now.

Before fight = winner by KO

After fight = loss and past their prime

Just once I'd like to see someone claim it before the fight

I think this is the end of his prime.

Machida: 36
Anderson: 38
Maia: 34
Munoz: 35
Yet strangely enough I saw no threads saying Silva or Machida are past their prime before the fight. If hindsight is 20/20 then hindsight coupled with a loss must be like x-ray vision.

One would think there would be signs of a fighter slowing down when he is past his prime. Yet both were coming off a string if victories and KO wins and were projected by many to walk through Weidman. Guess nobody could tell until after. Yet had Lyoto won by getting a KO at the very end of the exact same fight, I bet there would have been no threads saying a past his prime Machida pulled out a miracle win despite his age and obvious diminishing talents.

What round do you think he went past his prime? I figure it must have happened during the fight since it wasn't the case prior.

He looked pretty damn good to me. He actually did better than I thought he would.

Because Anderson is in the same boat as Randy Couture was. He was old when he retired the first time, past his prime. But he came back, and won fights.

You can be past your prime and still win, but it can definitely play a part in you losing a fight

I agree

But people knew Randy was past his prime and still winning. In fact that was part of what made it so cool.

But this is a new phenomenon of sorts with Weudman where nobody claimed so much as a hint Silva or Machida were past their prime before the fight. In fact many predicted they would not only win but win brutally. But then they lose and suddenly they are past their prime.

Maybe he is. I'm just saying it us kind of a credibility issue to me. If anyone said before the fight that in their prime Silva or Machida would win for sure but now that they are past their prime its gonna be a harder fight for them even though they still have enough left in the tank to win it'd be different. All I saw was recounts of how great they have looked and that they are gonna stomp Weidman. Shouldn't there have been some signs even in victory these guys were slowing down if they are past their prime?

Machida just came off beating Mousasi. Granted Silva had come off of beating Bonnar but prior to that beat Sonnen, Okami, and Vitor. By far his toughest stretch as champ. I saw no signs of slowing down. I dunno. Obviously at a certain point age has to play a factor. But that it keeps happening apparently from before a Weidman fight to after is what makes the claim seen a little convenient. Jmo

Past 34-38, the prime is gone. Doesn't matter who you are. There are variations, but NOBODY can be dominant in any sport into their 40s. If someone does it, the sport is simply not competitive enough.
