i was just talking to a friend of mine earlier during the Anders fight. Last time Machida looked badass was against CB. he smoked CB and then we got high in his car.

He looked amazing then. His original drop down to MW was awesome. Then....then he got old. He got slower.

I mean. Machida won the belt, when? In 09? Fuck I’m getting old.

Idk the point of this thread, I’m just bummed. Really hope Machida retires soon.

Have a good night, sherfriends.

He did look older, I hope he changes his style a little bit to not rely on his reflex's as much. His TDD was still as impressive as ever as well as his distance management and his counter left. The problem I see is that his competition has evolved to the point where EVERY coach in the world knows about Machida and knows how to prep his opponents for that style. When Machida started no one knew how to deal with him and his essence in that sense is gone. He needs to find a way to wear guys down and tonight he showed some evolution in my opinion.

Keep in mind, DC is also 39.

Did you at least get high in your mates care today as well?

Machida’s whole thing is his reflexes though. Dude could run through assholes like it was nothing. Now he has to totally change his whole shtick, and idk if he can.

DC and Machida fight differently. DC has the more “rise and grind” style, idk if that’s for Machida

What's that say about Anders?

He is many years removed from his prime for sure and no longer among the elite. His prime was probably 08-09. I think his fights with T. Silva and Rashad were when we saw Machida at his finest. But he has turned in some great performances since then. Moussasi was probably his last "really good" performance against an elite fighter.

I don't think I'm being a biased fanboy in saying Brunson is a guy prime Machida would've beaten quite comfortably. Losing to guys like that because your reflexes have faded is sad to see.

If he wants to carry on fighting, he should fight old battle dogs from his own era. Bisping is a good match up and a winnable fight. After that it may well be time to hang them up. It seems he has a good life outside of MMA.

I wonder what would happen if he fought at 205 again. Even though he is older, would he gain back some pop in his punches again? Would he be considerably faster than most 205ers?

I don't think Bisping will ever fight again.

DC may be 39, but he didn't start combat sports until 2010.

Machida's first MMA fight was 2003 after a lifelong career of Karate.

Machida has aged considerably more due to his fight years. The Rua fights were 8 years ago.

Lyoto, just like Bruce Buffer says, IT'S TIME!! Lyoto I love you man, but it's time to retire

You right, TS. He needs to call the quits. Not because I don't want him to do what he loves, but because there's no point. Dude's got a gym, nice fam, no need for CTE. Although he didn't get badly hurt on this one, he was brutalized by Cockhold, and got KO'd by Brunson.

Slow, old, one dimensional these days. He peaked around the time he fought Jon Jones. His blitz on Jon Jones was a thing of beauty.
