This guy is still fighting at 42 years old and still graceful as ever. He just took gegard to a decision which in and of itself is very impressive for any fighter let alone a guy on the north side of 40.

If you look at his career and see the names of the guys he beat its very impressive.

3 questionable fights
I would say he lost the first rua fight
conversely I would say he 100% won the rampage fight and the phil davis fight. Both of those were terrible decisions imo.

Lyoto is a TOP fighter, for sure. And, yes, you are right about those 3 fights.

The Machida Era.... didn't last long but blessed us with this for eternity...

Heres to Lyoto!

Cheers!

the brunson KO really killed me as a fan. On paper that was a very winnable fight for Machida. A sloppy wrestle brawler, albeit with big power, but a sloppy guy on the feet chasing the elusive precision striker was Lyotos fight to lose and to get flatlined like that was utterly disappointing.

His kick against Munoz will always stand out to me...

Munoz gets a glove up to at least partially block it, and it still KOs him.

Even his performance against Weidman was impressive at that point. Clearly lost but it was competitive, only old dude to not get crushed by prime Weidman.

One of my favorite fighters of all time...

Definitely beat Davis and may have beat rampage. He is my fave fighter of all time.

It was also very in character for him to hold off on the followup punches.

Machida is probably my favorite fighter of all time

having said that, his biggest problems in fights were whenever he faced adversity, he would get KOd in brutal fashion.

he has zero fight IQ (Or chin) once he is tagged, and seems to just give up and get KO in brutal fashion

when Machida is able to control the fight and avoid getting hit, he is spectacular. But once he is tagged it seems like the fight is over

Machida has had a great career and was always fun to watch (imo. I know many used to disagree).

My casual friends still think I'm some kind of Nostradamus for predicting his success in the UFC. They didn't know that all the wise Sherbros were already on the Machida bandwagon.

Imo, the Brunson KO was a result of not fully recovering from the brain damage Romero gave him. Lyoto should have taken the rest of the year off.

Machida was elite for most of his career.
He makes the goat list ( further down the ladder).
I agree he beat rampage ( Quinton, himself, thought he lost until DW told him to shut up- u won [ not in those words] ).

I actually forget the P.Davis fight ( part the thousands of fights I've taken in and part " it was a Phil Davis fight")

I thought Carvalho got jobbed in his fight against Lyoto.

All in all , machida appreciated.

Easily a true pioneer of the sport. Everybody thought that traditional martial arts were dead and until Machida came up and started beating people with Karate techniques. His KO's are quite unique on their own and gave us two of the most aesthetically pleasing fights to watch (vs Shogun 1, vs Weidman). He had a few stinkers here and there but you always felt intrigued to watch him because something dramatic might happen at any point. Future HOF imo.

Munoz, Tito and Tiago Silva have to be mencioned, more so when you include old Sonnen, Randy, Vitor and Hendo.
Also BJ
