luiz cane vs soko around 5 years ago

LuiZ Cane and Thiago Silva were coming into Ufc around the same time and the 2 Brazilians HATED each other....sending harsh comments to one another, it had looked like they were heading into a collision course being in same division. It didn't happen as they eventually got along with each other. I bring this up cause I remember saying what a fight it would be and I though Cane would be a slight favor(at the beginning).I would've been dead wrong on that and Silva would've likely crushed him.

Oh well.

We have missed a lot of potentially great fights for their time.Randy Couture was scheduled to fight Arlovski at UFC 42.Then the chance to drop to 205 and fight Chuck for the title at UFC 43 came up.Always wondered how that fight would have gone down especially seeing Couture's performance vs Chuck.

It's been years since I've seen the fight but wasn't Soko kicking his ass before gassing/giving up?

Lol at Sokoudjou's delayed reaction to the knee. Dropped like a sack of potatoes.

Been on a nostalgia kick lately on Fightpass and Youtube and sifted through an older fave fighter of mine's body of work. His best performance was probably against Soko due to the fact that he still had hype behind him and Rameau actually fought quite well for the first round and a bit. He was using all his major stand up techniques (powerful, powerful kicks) and was landing cleanly, but you could just see he did not have the gas tank to keep that kind of pace and Cane was too tough to go away. Cane weathered the early storm, kept working and once Soko slowed down enough started catching him with some pretty clean combos. It's a shame he had to face Lil Nog when his LHW run was really starting to find its legs; his chin was never really the same after Lil Nog WRECKED him.

Mind you, being matched up against Diabate next didn't do him any favors either from a stylistic or career longevity perspective. Anyways, if you haven't seen any of his fights in a while or at all I highly recommend them.

I remember Lil Nog being labeled a technician in boxing way back in PRIDE, when Big Nog started kicking ass with decent boxing. Lil Nog fought in the Pan Ams iirc and Got crushed.
Solid boxing, way above average especially for the date.

Solid boxing indeed.
? He is a solid technician....
You’re surprised he lost to actual boxers as a guy who doesn’t even train it full time ? weird post

I seem to remember him being mentioned as the Brazilian representative for the upcoming '08 Olympic Games during his fight with Soko by one of the commentators.. Naturally, within seconds he'd been completely KO'd. Not sure if he ever actually did compete in the Olympics but he was a pretty good boxer at his peak.

Sorry, I meant to praise and ended up sounding critical. His boxing was very crisp for the time. Some of the very best in PRIDE. Obviously not as good as pro boxers, but still very good.
I drink. I edited.

Lol ! All good my dude

Was there live for it. Decent card tbf. Met Dan Hendo and cheik kongo that evening too. Was 19 seems like so long ago

It was sad when Nedkov beat him in Brazil. I really felt for the guy.

The crowd really got quiet in that one. It was the first Brazil card and all the home fighters were on a roll. Then Cane blew it.....after that Nog, Shogun and Andy all won by KO.

The only Brazilian of the card to lose also, they looked truly unstoppable that night, I think they were very motivated as it was the 1st card in years there. Nedkov was a strange one too, he seemed like a beast and then lost 2 straight, never fought since

If I remember correctly soko was a good sized favorite but luiz cane picked him apart and had a lot of hype around him then. Anybody remember that fight and which event it was??
EDIT: who's the asshat necromancer?

Wasn't Soko banging Dan's daughter and training with him as well?

I if I recall correctly Cane also landed a huge kick to Soko's nuts.
