...semi-automatic, for under $2000.

I was considering picking up a Scar 17, but their prices are really getting high, and their magazines only hold 20 rounds, and are quite high in price. ($60-80)

I was in the Army for a while, and am very comfortable with the AR format, but looking for something more reliable than a AR-10.

The two biggest aspects in a firearm I require are accuracy and reliability.

And the $2000 pricetag is because I need to add a few accessories and ammo, so the total isn't over $3000.

One of the guys who knows more than me will be along soon. But I think there's a few options. Maybe you could find a used LMT MWS.

I have a DPMS GII Recon. I love it. The Hunter version is actually lighter than the Recon. I believe the difference is in the barrel. The Recon is shorter but a heavier barrel than the Hunter. Shoots great , and since the controls are the same as AR I don't find myself fumbling for the safety and reloads are the same motion as I normally do on 5.56. Factory trigger is actually decent( to me at least). Standard flatop so any optic you wanna mount is easy. Mags are easy to find. You can use some standard .223 handguards on the 7.62 version. Just need to check first for the compatibility. Heard mixed stuff on the lower receiver parts compatibility. Allegedly , they are all the same as the AR-15 platform. But it would still pay to check first before you drop $300 on a new custom trigger kit or something. But I have swapped out the grips and stock with one from another standard AR i have and they fit fine.

The G II line also has a dual extractors. I have run high end ammo and cheap American Eagle through it and so far have not had one feeding issue. I haven't run any truely cheap stuff like Wolf or anything through it. So I can't speak to that.

How about an AR15 and a boltgun in 308?

That way you got your bullet hose, and the other for farther out accuracy?

I dare say you could get both for the $2000 range?

just an alternative.....

Any of the M1A's will fit the bill.

Also, you can build an AR-10 for around $1000 if you really wanted (not counting any optics)

I have a Springfield M1A Loaded. Absolutely love it. But mine is probably closer to 3-4k with upgrades. Got it with a JAE Stock and it has optics.

Absolutely love the M1A. With the JAE it's an attention getter too

Is the JAE that crazy stock that almost makes it look like a McMillan?

i always thought that stock was more 'steyr scout' looking than McMillanish. either way its better than that front heavy EBR abortion.

Also for the price point given, id lean towards the PTR series. You can get the free floated models for less than a grand and theyll do anything an M1A can do

You need to upload pictures, the J Allen has to be one of the best looking chassis out there.

TS the FHN FNAR .308 sounds right up your alley.

There is also M1A and FAL. Those from what I've read have similar accuracy but the FNAR is supposed to be better. Even has a guarantee 3 shot moa from what I've read.

Honestly can't think of much else.

For around 2k, maybe look at the Ruger SR-762. If you're looking at an AR type platform, I would look at any rifles that use the 7.62x51 Magpul Pmags.

I always thought those were strange but then I had the chance to shoot one. Very cool guns.

My understanding is that it's a version of the Browning Automatic Rifle. They didn't seem to catch on much and prices have dropped significantly since introduction. Reviews all said accuracy was stellar. I bought one but never did anything with it.

They look funky for sure. People complain about the weight but really the 16" compared to the M1A scout 18" is very similar and the heavy 20" is about a 1/2 lb more.

There is also the FNAR competition. It is listed at 8.9 lbs compared to the M1A scout 8.8 lbs.

Supposed to be even better and msrp is listed at $1767.

The best accuracy was obtained with the Federal Gold Medal match load, which featured Sierra’s 155-gr. MatchKing bullet. Five-shot groups with this load averaged 0.83 inches—vindicating the factory’s 1-m.o.a. accuracy guarantee. Performance averaged slightly more than an inch—impressive results for a short-barreled, relatively light .308 Win. semi-automatic rifle.

That sure makes black look good!

The weight didn't strike me as an issue and it was the heavy barrel that I bought. The scales don't lie so it is what it is. One of these days I should get a scope and try it out.

Just looked on gunbroker.

Shocked how reasonable the price is and what it comes with. 3.25-5.5 lb adjustable trigger, sub moa capable and all for $1000.

I paid something like 1350 and I think CDNN was blowing them out for under $900 a few weeks ago. :(

It seems like a good gun if the reports of accuracy or correct. I just haven't ever got into shooting .308.

That it does.

So far from my reading there seems to be only two complaints. Magazine cost and how long it takes to break down and clean. I guess there were some early quality issues but they have been fixed.

For ts I would think that the rifle being $1000 cheaper than his max budget the mag cost would be a non-issue.

Lomger break down would be up to him obviously. I've read it is reliable with multitudes of ammo types.
