Looking back how exactly did Elias do so well?

I always thought he fought smart...i do believe if he ever wanted to sniff a title hed have to start finishing guys...but i dont think MMA was about titles for him...

His style was based on movement and he exposed alot of guys on the fact theres a lack of good movement in MMA.. alot of stationary and old school rock em.sock.em shit which isnt intelligent combat..also he had great cardio

Id have to watch some key fights of his again to really pin point techniques out..

But overall the guy was game and tough and he stuck to his style regardless of the casuals...

Would of liked to have seen him progress more..maybe get some stoppages felt like he was heading that way before the cut

a LOT of high volume kicks, good footwork, good cardio, always looked strong in the clinch or in any grappling situations, good chin, handsome.

he had that weird jake shields effect where guys just couldnt or didnt want to go after him on the feet, it was actually fascinating/hilarious how he kept winning lmao.

His style was fighting not to lose rather than to win. I think he got cut as much because he exposed how limited everyone else was too. Guys like Brunson and Santos couldn't finish him. Anyone remember Alvey looking like a friggin statue in there and not being able to land anything?

The irony is Elias looked best when people were able to pressure him and forced him to fight his way out of bad positions.. He just refused to be aggressive on his own.

Okami has looked pretty bad lately. Elias would beat him pretty comfortably based on movement alone I think.

I think it would be extremely competitive. Running around doesn't necessarily mean you win a fight. Elias would be top 3-5 in most organizations.

I think he'd be #2 or #3 in Bellator, about the same in ACA, #2 in FNG but probably champion elsewhere.

I think he'd be hanging around top 3-5. Might do a bit better, might do a bit worse. He's far from a lock against the better fighters.

If you take Bellator I think Moose beats him, I think him and Tokov would be interesting. I don't see how Salter, Van Steenis, Vanderford, Edwards, Richman or anyone like that pose much of a threat to him tbh.

There's nothing that indicates he's better than most of them. He likely runs and point fights to a close decision either way. Thinking he beats all of them 100% of the time is amusing. You're a victim of heavy UFC bias imho.

He's a good point fighter. Stays on the outside and takes absolutely zero risks. He has good kicks and solid footwork. Incredibly boring, but the man can win a decision.
Not a fan of his, but this is 100% true.

The dude actually had (or has) really decent technique; it's a shame he didn't want to engage, but whatever makes him happy i guess.

He was tough, in good condition and was very very active. That activity didn't amount to anything other than looking busy, but that is often enough for MMA judges.

I doubt it dude, I'm an ACA shill if anything.

These dudes can't take him down and don't have enough of a stand up game to trouble him.

It is what it is.

Nah man, he wins some and loses some. I know the UFC bias is heavy but you'll overcome it at some point hopefully.

Unpopular opinion.. Elias would have beaten Chris Weidman by the time he was cut.

No worries dude, I'm kind of getting a distinct feeling that you haven't actually seen any of these fighters anyway.

Of course I have. I'm no "20 organization legend" though.

I'm getting a distinct feeling you're starting to realize Elias might not be champion in every organization outside the UFC and are going to turn to "you don't know any fighters". Let's see how it plays out ;)

I mean Theodorou is a professional mma fighter so he probably knows what he is doing, but still outside of his ground and clinch game ( which he didn't use much ) i can't pick up anything about his fighting game that isn't what a street bum on crack would do in a mma fight. Still he menage to go on a winning streak ufc carrer and i belive he even cracked the top 10 one time.

I know you guys are just probably post his gifs here but im serious, did he do something very special that i can't see as just a mma fan?
It's a miracle he never got KO'd. I don't think I've ever seen him get seriously hurt in any of his fights. I guess he was super awkward, because he never struck me as talented.

I just think if you had anything you'd have come back with some idea of how he loses to them rather than vague statements, that's all.

Nothing you've said has indicated he'd definitively beat them. I just think you must not understand MMA as well as you think that's all. Watching a lot is great though.
