Looking back how exactly did Elias do so well?

I mean Theodorou is a professional mma fighter so he probably knows what he is doing, but still outside of his ground and clinch game ( which he didn't use much ) i can't pick up anything about his fighting game that isn't what a street bum on crack would do in a mma fight. Still he menage to go on a winning streak ufc carrer and i belive he even cracked the top 10 one time.

I know you guys are just probably post his gifs here but im serious, did he do something very special that i can't see as just a mma fan?
That's one of life's great mysteries my friend. His slow motion awkward as fuck stand up and complete lack of power should have never been enough to beat even the least experienced striker yet somehow he just kept winning more often than not and left the UFC with a pretty solid record.

The only possible explanation is that his nice hair and rugged good looks was just enough of a distraction most of his opponents simply forgot to beat him up then suddenly the fight was already over and they were left wondering where the time went cause they were lost in his eyes for 15 minutes.

No homo for the record but this really is the only scenario that even remotely explains his 17-3 record cause, despite him being substantially bigger than me even I'm quite confident I could beat him in a Boxing/ Kickboxing match, lol.

He is a JOKE the Good thing that the UFC cuts him
Shouldn't the bigger joke be that he amassed an 8-3 UFC record and got cut after the Brunson loss with a 3-1 record?

8-3 against "UFC caliber" opponents, if that isn't enough to prove "UFC caliber" is meaningless I don't know what is.

He is a good athlete, so the possibility of him committing to a strike after one of those 100 feints is enough to keep opponents hesitant. Play with fear without doing anything.

He was actually pretty crafty, always stayed pretty calm and never took risks.

Smoke and mirrors, its alive and well, even Canelo, he somehow dominates rounds by throwing 4 punches?

Rofl. I pray you're trolling but unfortunately I know you actually believe this. Carry on.
Why? He beat most UFC MW’s with ease. Even now he’d beat most of those guys. Would it be pretty? No, but he’d still win most fights...

So why the UFC Cut him he was running in the Brunson fight

He fought like playing chess. His fights were uneventful and did enough to grab some wins while " engaging " came at a minimum.

Yeah, I don't really remember much about that fight other than his slow motion spin kick attempts to be honest.

I don't really give a shit that they cut him either cause I couldn't stand watching him fight but he did have a winning record and was never really blown out by anyone despite losing to top 5 Brunson and Thiago Santos. Somehow neither of those guy's managed to finish him.

Mind you I guess they did cut Gegard on a winning streak as the #1 contender, as well as Top 5 Bader, Davis, Shields and Okami so there clearly isn't any rhyme or reason for there decision aside from whether or not Dana likes you.

Imagine if any other pro sports league operated in this manner... Lol

That's another positive he has in his favour, even when he does get hit he has an iron chin, I can't recall seeing him look phased from shots he did take from hitters like Santos and Alvey. Kinda makes me wish he'd throw caution to the wind and be willing to get hit more often.

Valid point. His technique was just atrocious though and he lacked power so if he fought recklessly he probably would have gotten KOed a few times.

You can take big shots if you're prepared for them and see them coming but it doesn't take much to turn the lights off if you get caught off balance or over extended by a shot you don't see coming which is usually what happens when you get reckless.

Just ask Anderson about that, or Aldo for that matter (my 2 all time favorites).

I just remember that one fight in the TUF finale where he was like "Alright, I'm gonna kill this dude" and then he did. Then for whatever reason he played a points game from then on. He was more aggressive in his last fight though, so maybe he's realised if he ever wants to get back to the UFC he'd better make sure he's worth watching.

Fair enough.

I enjoyed him puzzling his opponents. It was on them to do better to beat him.

Frankly, most sherdoggers (I'm guessing) have practiced some sort of martial art (for the purposes of this discussion let's include wrestling and other combative "arts.")

Many people on here forget that the general public still don't really understand or care about the technical (I know, showtime leg kick) aspect of the sport unless the fighter is willing to go all Mike Perry Ape Shit every fight.

Elias was a decent fighter, but boring. Good chin, amazing cardio, was capable of putting on a pace that lots of guys struggled to keep up with.

The boos from the crowd were savage that night. Surprised People weren't throwing things into the Octagon.
Elias fought so badly against Brunson it looked like he was deliberately trying to look stupid in there.
The entire Canadian crowd cheered him on his way in and hissed and spat at him on his way out

Theodorou was never very good. UFC gave him some favourable matches early in his career to build him up ... they were trying to build him as a Canadian star. But he sucks
