Long Island Gyms?

I'm in the port jeff area and I'm looking for something very similar to what the poster of the thread is looking for. I played baseball in college and since then I've just been going to the gym doing a mix of cadio/weights. It gets boring sometimes and since I've been a fan of mma for about 10 years.. I figured I'd check out an mma gym and get in the game a little. If anyone here can make a good suggestion.. I'd really appreciate it.

If you are in port jeff, then Kioto is very close for you.

I train at D'arce's and I love it. There is also Vamos Jiu Jitsu in suffolk. Bellmore kickboxing & MMA also opened up a new gym in Suffolk. There is also the school that used to be American Fighter, its not Varner Combat, or something.

It really depends if you want all around MMA or a main focus. I take an MMA class at D'Arce, but most classes are in a Gi, I'm unsure if that is what you are looking for.

just wondering if anyone hear has heard of alpha omega mma in rockville centre. instructors include joe donavon, jimmy vennitti brian egan adam shortz and chris defiris. any input would be great

Adam Schortz used to teach Muay Thai classes at Redboy BJJ and I think he also taught at the Fighthouse. He's a nice guy and a good teacher. I only rolled with him a couple times, he's a purple under Renzo I believe? Mikey Triangles knows him better than I do, he can tell you more about him. Those other instructors I do not know.

to the commack guy-- serra in huntington is probably your best bet. they just moved into a huge new space starting tomorrow and have doubled their classes.
they got bjj, MT, and wrestling TDs.
Also, vamos brothers in Holbrook is a little bit further but they got same deal as above but location is a little smaller and they have less classes.

I believe redboy in port jeff is gone. although i could be wrong.

edit- did not know this was a thread back from the dead

There's 2 good spots in that area, depending on what you're looking for one may be better for your needs.

Airborne MMA- Eric Uresk is the head instructor here and is a complete badass on the mats. Aside from being a great MMA fighter he's also a phenomenal no-gi grappler. his greco-Roman is the best I've ever encountered... which is why they call him Airborne in Las Vegas. He was well known in xtreme couture for throwing everyone around like ragdolls. This school does BJJ also, but focuses mostly on no-gi and MMA. it's very inexpensive by long island standards also. Here's the contact page: 631-721-0056

Airborne Mma Bjj | Facebook

Kioto BJJ- Master Mansor teaches here and he's a 9th degree redbelt directly under Helio Gracie. Nowhere can top this place for BJJ, but it's not that cheap, and they don't do much in terms of MMA. website: Kioto Brazilian Jiu-jitsu

I am familiar with both places and have a lot of friends at each academy. tell them I said hi when you go check them out.

Kioto Sayville now offers MMA Classes - it's still a very BJJ-centric school - but the MMA classes look pretty kick ass - Dante Sasso is running that part of the program 631-589-0459

I can't say that I've heard too much about these guys. I train at Emerson Souza bjj in Baldwin. We have straight BJJ classes that are geared towards sport, and also muay thai classes 3x a week. Emerson's a Carlos Gracie Jr. Black belt, won the worlds a few times, and a real nice guy. He teaches pretty much every BJJ class. If you want, come in and try out a class. PM me if you need more questions answered.

I think the competition is held in Long beach.. which isn't too far away from my school over in Baldwin(about 5 miles away).

Welcome to the Emerson Souza Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy if you call up, you can talk to the school's manager and tell her your situation.
