Under a week out now and this for me is easily the most interesting fight the card.

Unless age, rust and obviously a missing ingredient have a massive impact I can't see a way Magny takesthe this...all Lombard has to do is employ his grappling ala Maia and the fight is his.

I also see him having too much for Neil on the feet.

Thoughts?

Yeah i'd lean towards Lombard but just like the last Silva fight we don't really know how he's going to perform with the age and missing ingredients, Magny isn't bad so I wouldn't write him off but a good Lombard should be able to out grapple him for a decision + he'll have the crowd support

I see it ending violently with Magny taking a nap

I never think Magny's will win, but he usually does. The only way I see him winning is by hanging in there, moving backwards, tag Lombard with long punches and hope he gasses.

i remember getting a double yellow for fighter bashing cause i said lombard and yoel had some pretty special and strong protein shake...turn out it was tainted supplements i apologize...cant wait to see how they both perform without it

Lombard isn't even in the same area code as Maia in terms of grappling. He's far closer to Gastelum in terms of overall grappling skills. When has Lombard ever used suffocating top control to win a fight in the UFC? He has great Judo and counter wrestling (that he showed vs Shields) but to think he's capable of replicating what Maia did to Magny...c'mon.

Lombard has huge power so his best chance to win is landing a big shot. Magny has range, is well rounded, and has constantly improved since joining the UFC. Lombard is coming off a suspension for PED's. "Missing ingredient" indeed...take a look at some other guys that USADA has made look like different fighters (Erick Silva for example).

Lombard can win yeah, but after opening as the betting favorite the $ has come in on Magny and flipped the line, Lombard is the betting underdog now. Thinking this is a piece of cake for him makes no sense.

Lombard is a highly decorated judoka. Maia is a highly decorated BJJ guy.

Gastelum is not highly decorated anything.

I like all three guys for the record.

Lombard's best chance might be catching Neil with a big shot. Magny was KO'd on TUF and rocked badly against Gastelum, so if Lombard does win, I think that would be the way to go.

On the other hand, if Magny keeps his distance, picks away at Lombard, and watches clinches and tdd, he could easily win a decision.

Yes and like I said, Lombard has terrific Judo and counter wrestling. But in terms of applicable MMA grappling skills, there's light years between he and Maia. Anyone who's watched both guys fight can see this. Lombard was impressive in how he stopped Shields from implementing his gameplan. But he's never shown he can take a top tier UFC level fighter down and dominate them on the mat. It's not his style, and he likely doesn't have the gas tank to do it even if the skills are there.

Gastelum, despite not being "decorated" at anything prior to MMA, has shown very good overall grappling skills in the UFC. GSP wasn't a "decorated" grappler in any discipline either. Jones, while highly recruited, only wrestled at junior college. I'm not saying Gastelum is GSP or Jones (of course he's not), but Kelvin entered MMA very young so kinda obvious he wouldn't have any noteworthy creds in wrestling, etc. But Magny getting the better of Kelvin on the mat was impressive.

I'm expecting Lombard to completely destroy him. Either an early KO or a leg breaking ankle lock.

Then I sit around and remember I'm sorta retarded and Hector hasn't finished anyone in awhile. It also starts to become clear that I thought Magny was going to lose like half of his fights in the UFC, so I should probably stop doubting him.

neil magny has been continually doubted.

likely either an early KO for lombard, or magny takes over late.

So much more of a difficult fight for post usada Lombard than a lot of noobs are making it out to be. Hector isn't some KO machine in fact he has been a pretty boring meh fighter since leaving Bellator.

Magny is long (Lombard is not), has great cardio (Lombard does not) and unlike Hector is not a front runner.

This is a very tough fight for Lombard. I feel they are setting him up to be cut with a loss. Think about it. An older expensive guy coming off a PED suspension and losing to Magny?

Pink slipped

This is the absolute truth (hector has been a borderline bust since Bellator)

My first thought was Lombard destroys him but he hasn't been destroying many people lately and is coming off a long layoff. I still like him but can see him gassing/being inactive and Magny taking over the second half of the fight if he survives.

Precisely

Yeah man agreed. That's why it's ridiculous hearing all this Lombard by KO or he'll murder him. Asinine really.

I don't know why I see a Lombard vs Boetsch type performance.

Perhaps he'll be off the gear? Will be interesting to see him without it, will there be an obvious physical change.

I think Magny may out-point him - in a poor fight.

Or... Lombard with a huge overhand shot which KO's the guy.
