Lombard should have paced himself in the first.

He was so close to stopping the fight it's hard to argue the process. Hindsight is a bitch.

.....and not go for the finish when it looked like it was there?!?

Hindsight is a beautiful thing

he was literally standing in the end of the first round

Right on fuckin Captain Hindsight

The only thing i came away with from that fight was the grounded opponent rules, and even the back of the head rules.

Under our rules, I didnt think it should have been stopped, and I didnt think Lombard could stop it.

Turtling and turning your back to danger is the best move because the ground protects punches to your face, and you cover the sides of your head with your hands or forearms. Everytime the aggressor moves, the defender must make sure to turn away from him 180.

Now, i dont want to see the back of the head stomped or spike elbowed, i dont think people are going to go for soccer kicks that break through those arms and score hard into the head, but maybe turtling up should be seen as an acceptance of defeat, because we know how quickly the end WOULD come if there werent rules to protect guys from serious damage.

It seems weird to me that fighters can protect themselves by intentionally going to the most defenseless position.

That said, Lombard should have stood up and soccer kicked his ribs.

I pity Lombard for not being able to knee to the head when Magny was grounded.

Conor too

It's funny how everyone can see and acknowledge what obviously happened to Lombard last night: He blew his wad in the first, becoming a shell of himself for the remainder of the fight.

But because of the prejudice and hate, many refuse to admit that the same thing obviously happened to McG in the Diaz fight.

And not a word about how Hector must be a hopeless whitebelt on the ground - since Magny was so easily able to mount and triangle him. lol

Conor is just such a bigger personality that it's inevitable.

What he should have done was get his hooks in, flatten out Magny or roll him over and RNC him.

Florian kept going on and on about how Lombard is a bjj black belt, submission wrestling God, and he wouldn't even sink in the hooks to control Magny.

Instead he Shane Carwin'd himself and could barely lift his arms for the rest of the fight.
