Lombard doesn't suck and wasn't overrated, but people saying he should retire may not be far off

...because he is really quite old and might be well past his prime. His gas tank seeming worse than ever is getting attributed a lot to USADA, but people also seem to forget he's almost 40 and that might be part of it too. I mean he doesn't have to retire if he doesn't want to, it's obviously his choice but I'm more saying that we should take into account he's an old man and not expect him to perform like a youngster when judging his cardio etc. I would say the same about Romero especially if he looks bad when he returrns BTW.

The Prince of Troy (Hector) might be on his last legs. :(

Jesus, TS you have to be kidding me.

If he won, you would probably be talking about how his next fight should be a title shot.

Arguably, the ref could have stopped the fight in the first, which would have been a win for Hector.

I personally think that Hector is an amazing fighter with many more fights in front of him. He is marketable, and it was a bad matchup with Magny for him.

He has a good career and it unfortunately didn't pan out well going into UFC at the time that he did. He's actually one of the few guys that age and with that many fights who I would say still have a decent lifespan in the sport assuming he chooses to keep fighting. However, retirement certainly wouldn't be a bad thing.

He had a good career.

Looking back Shields fight was probably his last gasp in terms of being prime-ish, he did win the next one but already seemed diminished. No more thinking Lombard has a good chance of beating Rory etc. for sure.

He's not winning a belt or probably beating any top guy but he rarely takes much damage (obvious exception last night) and is still dangerous. I can't see him leaving so long as the UFC is still willing to pay him.

Lol he blew his load trying to finish him.Not really much to do with cardio.I was really surprised magny didnt get in his face at the end of round 1 and not let him recover. But ultimately what cost him the fight was not riding out the top position instead he dropped for a heel hook.

For me welterweight is real weak right now in terms of contenders all he needs is 2-3 fights and he can get a titleshot.

He's never had a good gas tank so I just don't see him beating the top fighters that are more technical, especially since he just head hunts. He of course gassed extra hard for punching himself out completely, but I expect him to get tired anyway in a 3 round fight, not to talk about a 5 rounder which he would have to endure when facing the better guys.

Not that I care since he's a cheater anyway.

I don't see the reason for this anger, I didn't say he's bad or anything I said he's old. He is quite old. People talk about Shogun who's several years younger like he's a dinosaur all the time, granted Shogun has taken a lot more damage in the ring and has more documented injuries but think about the wear and tear from training as long as Hector has. It's just reality that he's likely well past his prime. And I didn't say he has to retire just that we should remember his age when evaluating/criticizing him.

I recall Lombard having a ridiculously large hype-train on sherdog leading up to his UFC-debut and people were even saying he can smash Jones and is the real Tyson of MMA then the Barbarian derailed the hype-train and ever since it got on hold mode

He was way overrated and had a crazy hype train... but that died straight away on his ufc arrival when he lost to TIM BOETSCH!

lol

though I actually thought he won the fight but his performance was poor anyway so it doesn't matter

Hector can still potentially destroy anyone at WW. Neil Magny impressed me by surviving that assault and managing to turn it around. Maybe Magny is just really good... 10 wins in his last 11 fights?

One of the most exciting fighters at WW, always fun too see him fight. Hope he can one day get a title shot :D

The fight with Magny should be stopped in 1st round. It is really hard to tell should he retire after that fight in which judge had such a huge mistake.

With a different ref he's just won his comeback fight by first round KO against a decent contender.
Lombard is what he is, first round he's one of the best guys on the roster, but if you survive he will gas out

I'll wait till his next fight before even thinking about where he really is right now. There are just too many factors to consider, USADA, Age, Gassing out going for the finish in the 1st, the Ref in this fight.

This was his first finish loss I believe, so we'll see.

Well the fact that USADA and IV are coming at the dusk of his career when he is getting really " old " fightwise sure aren't helping his performance..
Neither has ring rust..

We'll see in his next two but he might be done competing for the title..

I missed the fight sadly, but it sounds like he pulled a Shane Carwin last night and blew a load in the 1st. Dude is scary as fuck the first 5 minutes.

I figured his cardio wouldnt hold up without the peds and posted thats why i was picking magny.

it wasnt age.
