Lockpicking (Updated)

here is my lock pick

This... Mossberg to both hinges.

My wife locked herself outside of the house the other day, with our baby daughter inside. The guy next door is a professional glazier, he took the glass panel off our bi-fold door within 60 seconds, better than any locksmith could have done.

It's a good skill that can be handy at times and I got use a clothes hanger on my old car to get the keys out. I garaged it a few weeks ago and locked the keys in it.

I mean, I know that -I've used it 200 times in my life -including my own safe a few weeks ago.

I just am not sure what my dad (who was not a locksmith) was thinking teaching me every kind of lock possible like a college curriculum -maybe he wanted a master criminal ...lulz.

He just wanted you to be well rounded is all and most of us dad's want this for our sons.

My brother has a walmart style safe, looks like a briefcase,

I opened the lock with a hair clip,

talk about useless lmao

Oh, the binding defect trick again?

Like 50% of locks will open with the binding defect if you're REALLY GOOD at what you do. Likely if you run out and try to bind and pick locks you'll open 10% of what you attempt and crank the shit out of your torque tool.

However...
"Master" padlocks fly open with the binding defect and a half diamond. Blew my mind.

I took a course on lock picking with the PD. I've used it a couple times at work and some doors are insanely easy to pick. Anything that is old and worn makes picking very easy.

I need to get my bump keys replaced and get a small rubber mallet to use. I broke my last key using my ASP to bump.

I picked some lady's lock at like 11pm one night because she locked herself and her dog out and was scared to call a locksmith. The other time I had to use it was for some little old lady who had literally fallen and couldn't get up and needed medics. We couldn't boot or ram the door because we thought she may have fallen close to it. Picked it and got the firefighters in to help her out.

Best course I ever paid for at the PD. Should be taught to all patrol officers.

most of the safes you buy from big box stores don't require any kind of special tools to open easily .

demonstrations begin around 23 mins~

Im actually pretty descent at lock picking but mostly just breaking into homes from my time as a property preservationist for a subcontractor through mortgage companies.

Since I would have to put new knobs and deadbolts on the doors to the property I was able to destroy the existing locks to gain entry. I would normally just drill out the pins with a drill bit and if they fall out correctly, you can just turn the lock with a screw driver.

lol it isn't lockpicking if you're drilling holes in people's doors

I once locked myself out of my high rise apartment. I had to call a locksmith, he came over, shoved some gun looking thing with a key like attachment into the lock, pulled the trigger twice, door opened, $230.00.

He was in front of the door under 10 seconds.

Also, I found it funny that instead of just saying your apartment, you said "my high rise apartment." :icon_lol: Lol I'm just messing with ya, but I did find that funny.

My father taught me tumblers, padlocks, and car lock picking at a very young age.

Not sure his motive but I am damn good at it.

If true, and it sounds like it is, I think that's pretty awesome. Your dad was teaching you to be a survivor. Real men should know how to get into your locked house, or car, or even out of handcuffs (should the need ever arise).

This thread isn't about picking locks for criminal purposes. But realistically, let's say something crazy goes down; like war, or riots, or a natural disaster, etc. and things get chaotic around you. If you know how to get into places and cars or whatever, to get what you need to survive, then this is a life skill, right? It's like owning a gun, it's better to have this skill and never need it, than to need it and not have it.

Plus, it'll impress the fuck out of chicks since they dig the bad boys ;)

Yeah I locked myself out of my camaro like 4 times, and had to use the old coat hanger (or car antenna) through the window seal trick. It works. I actually got pretty quick at it.

Knowing that trick will save you time and money.

I said that because I take great pride in the fact I have always been able to break into any house/apartment I put my mind to but I wasn't willing to risk climbing around balconies etc on the 8th floor in the rain.

Believe me it was with a feeling of great sadness I called the locksmith but really nothing else I could do.
