Couldn't do anything of significance to him? I know how MMA math works (not to be trusted), but don't tell me a lot of you (including me) aren't eating some crow right now.

I seriously thought that Edson was a front runner who would fold once Pettis landed hard on him. It turned out to be somewhat of the other way around with those hooks Edson threw.

What's Edson's deal anyway? Is he mentally improved? Could Pettis have done more?

Swear to god, the way Cerrone humiliated Barboza, and the way Pettis humiliated Cowboy made me think for sure that Pettis was the superior striker of the two. If not technically at least mentally.

Now I see people on the UG and a minority here that still are Pettis fans claim that he could have done more. Not sure after watching that.

Barboza kinda fought dumb in that fight. He was trading in the pocket with Cowboy who has an extremely good chin. What he should have done was chip at his body with them dangerous kicks of his.

Barboza is very similar to Overeem. Can beat everyone but everyone can beat him too, at least in the top 10

I feel bad for Pettis.

Me too. How the mighty have fallen. I'm not sure how he'll bounce back mentally now that his self image as a striker in that division might be hurt. Shit, I think Ferguson would bully him at this point.

barboza didnt see that jab coming from cowboy.

literally had his eyes shut just as it was being thrown/landed.

to add just another layer- Pettis trained with Cerrone in this camp...

I really want to see Showtime right the ship. Truth be told, Barboza, Alvarez, and RDA beat most lightweights but when you are a presumed top-tier guy, a three-fight losing streak is really hard to overcome.

never rated pettis... aside from a few flashy moments he is and always had been an absolute dud and time has proved it

This is because Edson had very clear technical flaws in his game coming up that were stupidly written off as 'having a bad chin' and has made big improvements over time. I actually thought he would win this fight cause I thought their kicking game was even and his boxing has surpassed Pettis'. Edson has issues with pressure. You stand at range with him in the open like Pettis did and you're gonna have a hard night.

Edison would win a rematch imo. he just need to fight smarter and he puts cowboy away easily

Pettis relied on his punches and was getting countered hard all fight but I think they both missed chances to finish the fight. Barboza reminds me of a video game where one leg kick takes his whole stamina bar, at least thats how he acts. He could have ruined Pettis earlier but he said that was a counter to Pettis throwing that counter right when he kicked with his other leg.

Well to be fair, the jab from Cowboy caught him off guard and off balance. Landed like that on anyone it would have probably made them lose their balance, and it wasn't like Barboza was seeing starts after that. Im happy Cowboy won that fight but everybody seems to think Edson's chin cannot hold up to Cowboys jab, when him dropping from it had nothing to do with chin.

I think we've confirmed you haven't watched any of his fights.
ive watrched all of his fights from bendo in wec till his fight today and he struggles t0 put together meaningful offense against his opponents unless hes catching them with something special and finishing them. if he cant do that he looks horrible see guida, alverez now barboza

I think Barboza just wanted it a ton today. We saw the best Barboza we've seen because he felt like he was the better striker, wanted to prove it and knew that most were writing him off. Not that Pettis didn't feel pressured to bring his a-game. I genuinely think Barboza proved that he's better than Pettis.

pettis' strikes were mostly ineffective it's sad to say.

I think it is connected to his TKD background. He was always relying on his speed and reflexes to catch guys with his kicks to stun them and then finish them off with other techniques at his disposal. Given that reflexes are the first thing to go out in an athlete we can see Pettis just like TKD olympians not doing so well after 27-28 years old. And its just going to get worse for him. He wont be able to get his speed back and with his lacking of power in hands and not being an offensive grappler, i dont see him being competitive with top guys in future.

Me too. How the mighty have fallen. I'm not sure how he'll bounce back mentally now that his self image as a striker in that division might be hurt. Shit, I think Ferguson would bully him at this point.
He still has his pride, and former champ status. He does better than guys like Jim Miller and Diego Sanchez who are still around.

OR:

LOL

Works both ways.
