Lloyd Irvin - The Grappling Gameplan

Loyde is actually one of the best American BJJ coaches. I don't agree with alot of his personal issues, but he did make multiple champs , that can't be denied.

Is he a good coach, or did he just rope some talented people into his little cult for awhile?

Good coach. Taking a bunch of guys and housing and feeding them and making them train all day is part of coaching. He is not necessarily a good instructor. All his best guys had different games rather than using some kind of top down Lloyd system.

He's a good coach obviously. Every high level grappler that loyde had or who had left, all speak highly of him and his training methods .

It they were in a cult, after the left they would've said negative things about him and the training.

Some did. It was kind of a thing.

Some did. It was kind of a thing.

I remember some old stories but they weren't validated from Keenan ,Jt Torres, Aly and other guys who left. They said they liked it there.

Back in the days, he offered any good competitors to stay at one of his house and train on a "full time" basis.

The house was called the jungle house or something like that.

It did attract some students from outside his region like Keenan.

But actually it was not free and students had to pay.

The ones that did not pay were like assistant instructor etc...

After the court case for rape, most of the students left him.

Homie had people doing that all over the region. There were houses he owned and then properties owned by his associates. Personally, I lived in a supply closet.

Hum.

Lot of other bjj teams do also cares about their students.
The like of Alliance which ten times world champions.
The only difference was that loyid Irwin was going to be the first American bjj team to become a strong bjj team.

keenan was a blue belt or veyr early purple i seen him win advance no gi tourneys as a 16/17 yearold obviously he wasnt winning worlds yet but kid was truly talented without a doubt

No it’s not.
(Source: I’m a professional mma coach)
I did not mean that it is common. But if you team is winning because you do stuff that I would still treat you as a good coach even if you bring other instructors in or your athletes do a lot of self study.

Alot of guys win no gi tourneys at his age and belt..

Because I don't associate with rapists. I also don't affiliate with anyone. Why would I split money with anyone but gym owners and employees?

Edit: Nowadays, I run a business network. No one is forced into it. They wanna go operate dolo, they can do so. We do suggest they buy our stuff sometimes, mainly equipment and apparel, but there's no upline. No passive income. Its funny that the graft I experienced in BJJ, I channelled into doing business fairly.

By the way, Keenan was planning to start his own recruitment drive by other lodging facility for his competition team which is sleeping quarters at his own gym.
