Liking the UFC has made me not want to fit in with mainstream society.

I get that you were trying to be funny and I usually play along but May is Brain Cancer awareness month, don't joke about that kind of stuff. You never know if the next headache you get which lasts for far longer than usual and the next time your vision goes blurry is a serious issue that requires an MRI or CT Scan.

Is this what mainstream sports tell you?

UFC, combined with mentioning "Team" sports, has IMHO brought the parallel of today's society with similarities of the earlier Roman "Coliseum" days into consciousness.
Major sports becoming woke surely helped many shy away from them.

Is this some thinly veiled "the UFC is not mainstream" thread?

But yeah, 1v1 combat sports > team ball sports, for the most part.

Being an MMA fan will definitely make you the odd man out in most social and professional settings, at least in my experience. I don’t encounter too many people who watch the fights. When I was still training, not surprisingly, lots of guys from the gym watched fights, but that’s about the only situation I can recall where there were other fight fans around.

Not to sound like some teenage rebel but I remember back before the UFC, I would worship the NFL and all of the BS that came with liking it. I would watch mainstream sports and care about mainstream stuff.

No idea what happened during the pandemic but it is like loving the UFC has made me almost hate the NFL, NBA, and most mainstream sports. Then I do not even want to fit in with most mainstream people that want to watch the NBA playoffs because I find it all so cringe. Do not watch the NFL unless it is the playoffs.

I feel like the UFC has almost carved out some weird counterculture for people that are sick of mainstream sports and fitting in entirely with mainstream society. I find the NFL and NBA so cringe these days and especially after the pandemic.

Wondering WTF happened.

Anyone else?
Nothing wrong with it, that's how niche sports are able to survive. Look at WWE. How many of those fans do you think sit down on Sundays to watch the games

The UFC us mainstream. Dana White says it's bigger than soccer

But I kinda know what you mean. Compared to other sports, the UFC is not bogged down by political and social issues. It's just two topless muscular dudes in a cage beating the shit out of each other

<{JustBleed}>
I love it

I kind of feel the same, NBA and NFL have left a bad taste in my mouth after all the woke garbage they try to push, and UFC so far has stood firm not capitulating to that so I do respect them more.

If you ever thought UFC judges were bad, check out NBA refs. The amount of advertisements in a game will make you quit mainstream sports quickly.

TS shops at Hot Topic.

I mean I would as well, but I can't afford it.

I would watch Breakfast Club with TS and we could cheer on Judd Nelson.

LMAO at thinking the UFC is some outlier to mainstream sports. It is a mainstream institution.

Team sports are for manlets like soccer and Lanklets like nba players

I have a theory about this. I personally still love Mainstream sports and watch them, but MMA (I include Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Jujitsu, Wrestling, Boxing, etc.) is by far my favorite.

My theory is that MMA is so high stakes, it gives a rush other sports can't touch and the best part is that it can end at any moment, raising the stakes the entire fight. Say you're watching a fight that is 5 rounds, scheduled for 25 minutes, but that fight could potentially end 4 seconds into the fight via flying knee. Plus, you have multiple fights on a Fight Card. So every fight presents it's own unique story, challenges and potential for ending at any moment. Whereas when you watch the NFL, NBA, MLB, etc. the game will go the full length of time no matter what. Say it's a blow out, still going to be a 60 minute football game, 4 quarter basketball game, 3 period hockey game, 9 inning baseball game, etc. Thus, after watching a lot of MMA, some can become jaded to this style of watching sports. It doesn't feel high stakes unless it's a close game, and even then, it doesn't become high stakes until say the 4th quarter in football, or the 7th inning beyond in baseball, the last 8 minutes or so of basetball/hockey, etc. So when you're watching fighting you're hypothetically on the edge of your seat the whole time, where as with other sports, you get excited when big moments happen, but you may not necessarily be on the edge of your seat until those home stretches of close games.
