Likelihood of Cuts Based on Race

For the most part I agree with him...Are their any white or hispanic fighters with movement like Whitaker, Mayweather Hopkins or Jones ? Calzaghe and Kessler are pretty slick.

I would not call Kessler slick. But Calzaghe definitely is. So is Malignaggi.

I think the "white boys cut easily" steriotype is simply that. Kind of like the "Black guys cant take a punch like white guys can" one.

There are no statistics to show that white guys get cut more easily is there? For one I do think its fair to say thatits harder to see blood on a Black fighter while a small cut on a white fighter is more clear to see. But mostly its this...

Black fighters, traditionally are faster, quicker and more agile. That's not a racist statement. Get the top 10 fastest Boxers of all time and they will be Black guys. You dont have to study history like I do to know the history of this Country during slavery and how Rich White men ran their slaves. African-Americans in this country are by average better atheletes when you look at it in paper. They are a much smaller population yet a highest percentage of atheletes in the pro-level in most major sports- including Boxing for decades. (Even when it was mainstream).

Now with that said- is it steriotypical to say that all blacks are good atheletes? Of course. Just as it is to say whites arent. In pro-Boxing you have to reach a certain level of greatness to be fighting in Championship fights and in that level the race comparison truly becomes irrelivent. Joe Calzghe is a good example of that.

Now if Black men held White men as slaves and breeded them to be a bunch of Rocky Marcianos, Joe Calzaghe's and Jack Dempsey's I can assure you roles would prob be reversed. But it didnt work out that way.

With all that said. Roy Jones Jr isnt immune to being cut and before two Saturday's ago steriotype would have it that its bcause he's black and black guys dont get cut. But, really, what it was is that he spend most of his career never losing a round and being a very good fighter. Once he got hit with all those punches like he used to on "white boys" he got cut. It's really that simple.

Melanin is more prevalent in people with darker skin, so the darker your pigmentation the more melanin you have. I believe high concentration of Melanin acts as protection and makes your skin tougher. Hence the probability that black fighters are less susceptible to cuts.
I am no scientist or medical expert, so I am prepared to be corrected if anyone is better informed.

that sounds logical enough. maybe it's related to the fact that black's are less likely to get sunburns.

I would have to say that's the case, it seems that not just black fighters...but fighters of darker skin complextions, at least that's what it seems like. Seriously we need to stay away from these threads all together though, boxing already had it's fair share of race baiting.

if you dont think that white and black people have differnt skin then you are blind. all one must do is look and you can see they are different. also, black peoples skin is better able to handle heat so its not a surprise that it is less likely to be cut. people are different, thats not racist.

Next she'll tell you polynesians don't have better chins then other races.

Why would you think that, because of Mark Hunt and David Tua? I don't think that the fact two polynesian fighters have good chins makes them all that way.

Chuvalo, Tex Cobb and Lamotta are all white, and have pretty much the best chins ever. That doesn't mean all white men have iron heads.

Melanin is the reason that darker people are less likely to be afflicted with sunburn or skin cancer.

i know...what i meant to say that my thoughts are more pigment = less sun damage = stronger skin. lack of melanin = white man's burden :icon_chee.
