I am amazed how people can consciously commit crimes knowing that they could spend number of years in a jail.

You got only 1 shot at life. Why would you do stuff that could end your life so early. Even small sentences, month, 6 months. If you had a job you can be sure its no longer there waiting for you. And if you go out you will have hard time getting a new one.

I cant imagine myself in a jail. Conceding too much of my daily routine. Not be able to go out, travel, eat and drink what you want and so on. All you got is 4 walls everyday.

Schools from early years should introduce teaching about crime and how this gonna end up for people. I know some people regretting stuff they did but what's done it's done.

I'm working on a project that requires me to walk through prisons in NC. Most of the people in the prison I'm doing right now have really long sentences or life. They are real pieces of shit and about 1/3 of them look legit retarded.

I'm okay with going to jail if someone messed with my family. I lost some family members to violence overseas some years ago and it took me awhile to swallow the impotency of my world-burning rage...I may as well have been in jail because for a few years all I could feel was rage or repressed rage, or self-hatred.

What kind of man are you if you can't protect your family? A failure in some regards (even if it's not your fault, it kind of is. I truly believe that's what males are evolved for. Protecting women and children) I can bear a lot of things, but family is sacrosanct.

Some people have shitty life circumstances and are unable to see another way. Some people are unlucky. Some people are stupid.

Freedom .... of choice is an illusion. Those who end up in prison never really had a choice. Life is just a lottery, genetics, brain chemistry, formative years, traumatic events, environment etc all determine how the vast majority of people's lives are gonna play out. We're all just playing our parts.

No, but exposing offenders of petty offenses to that world, and then adding the stigma of having a criminal record, lends itself pretty well to recidivism. Especially those from backgrounds where they don't have anything to fall back on.
