If you apply tariffs to compensate for anti-competitive practices and you're still not competitive then the issue is at your end, don't you think? More tariffs just make the product more expensive without making domestic manufacturers any more competitive. And that's a bad thing. "Equalising the market" the way you frame it is how communists ruin their economies. Who needs to try to innovate or become more efficient to compete if the government is going to debase the value proposition of competitors' products for you?

Mind you, I guess it depends upon what "stated aims" you're working toward. If the goal is to simply obstruct the Chinese from importing to your country in the first place because fuck them, why not just ban them? Notice how they haven't done that?

If the goal is to ensure they cost a fair price in an open market that has been accomplished AFAIK with the 100% tariff--talking about that one particular Chinese EV, of course.

Of course, it is, but I don't think it's the kind of dig you seem to think it is.

While I see it as putting a fine point on the accusation that the president has been bought and paid for you appear to think of it in the sense of cuckoldry.

Pointing out the very obvious fact that Musk bought his way into the White House for $250 million is not a meltdown. It's just the news.

I strongly dislike trump and musk. But the left calling him potus is a meltdown and they are lashing out like children. I hate rich fuckers like elon and corrupt fucks like trump. I didn’t vote for him and would never vote for a maga turd, but I refused to vote for dumbass kamala as well, so I voted for my cat because she is more qualified than both of them.

I haven't seen much of that if any but ok, I guess. I don't really use Twitter/TikTok/Threads/any of that shit so I'm sure I miss a lot. I'd say, though, that to the extent you are right, it's due to individual wingnuts being amplified on social media. I think it skews one's perception of how many people are like that so that it seems a lot more widespread than it is.

I hate twitter yet I use it and somehow my feed is filled with both liberal and far right influencers and I never agreed to follow them, somehow they were pushed upon me, but now I just bash them when they say stupid shit and I try to troll them and get responses by famous people every once in a while when I trash their side. Mainly though, twitter is full of retards, racist fucks, and assholes.

Understood, but my point stands that they're individual randos and there's no way to guage how prevalent their attitudes are (or how sincere) because of how the algorithm favours controversial content and pushes it to everyone. In the absence of contrary empirical data I conclude their prevalence is greatly exaggerated.
