I assume by liberal you mean leftist? Here is a juxtaposition between two events and the failure for not only leftists but the media and the establishment (conservatives included) to fail to apply the same standards and logic (but mostly in regards to Leftists). Kind of long...
Charleston shooting:
-3,420,000 results on Bing
-A massive wiki page devoted to the incident which is
referred to as a massacre.

-White Gunman enters traditionally black church and indiscriminately opens fire killing nine black church members (a very unfortunate tragedy IMO).
-Fall out is National, the story still hasn't died, state legislatures and executive politicians vote to remove the Confederate Flag and Confederate statues/monuments from public grounds (or just decree it will be removed), stores and sporting events ban the selling and/or flying of the flag, some even demand for the bones of the deceased Confederate Lieutenant General Nathan Bedford Forrest to be exhumed and removed from public grounds (because he is totally connected to this incident, right?).

Umpqua Community College Shooting
-703,000 results on Bing
-A wiki page that pales in comparison to the Charleston page...Its just called a shooting, not a massacre.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Umpqua_Community_College_shooting
-Black Gunman enters Community College, takes classroom hostage, lines the students up (all casualties were white), goes person to person questioning the nature of each individuals spiritual beliefs, shoots those who identify as Christian in the head, killing them, shoots those who do not profess a claim to Christian beliefs in the leg, only maiming them.
-Once it becomes clear the shooter was of Sub-Saharan African descent, the media spends a day or two spinning, and the story completely dies. Crickets from anybody with any sort of a platform.
-One bright spot from this tragedy is the heroism displayed by one Christopher Mintz, a US Military Veteran, who sustained three gunshot wounds while trying to bar the shooter from entering through the door, on his young sons birthday no less.

In conclusion:
-When a young White kid targeted and killed nine Black Christians it is considered a tragedy, a massacre, and proof of the evilness of whites, the US in general, and becomes a catalyst for leftist social engineering and iconoclasm.
-When a young Black kid specifically targets White Christians, forces them to declare their faith before their God, kills those who do profess their faith while wounding those who deny Christian affiliation (imagine that, the psychological torture of knowing if you declare your faith you will be murdered and if you deny your faith you will most likely survive, my heart goes out to those last eight individuals who were murdered and who in the face of madness decided to express their faith).
Oh yeah, I almost forgot, according to the media, the black gunmen who murdered nine White Christians was motivated by White Supremacy...
Does anybody wonder why young whites with access to the internet might embrace the Alt-Right as opposed to one of the traditional political movements? Do you wonder why the mainstream media cant even control the narrative against facebook feeds? Anybody? More crickets? What is worst...entering a church and opening fire, or lining people up and forcing them to declare before their God and killing them when they do maiming when they don't? Forcing that decision on them.

This is why I fundamentally reject the left (just one example). They seem to really hate me and others like me and see us as nothing but a problem to be solved. Anytime someone of my group commits an offense it is magnified, highlighted, and used to beat us over the head with as if we are all responsible. Whereas when someone of another group commits an offense that may be even more heinous, it is downplayed, ignored, or dismissed as an isolated incident. I hope you get the point TS.
