If an MMA fighter was to master this submission, would they be the most OP fighter ever? You could literally choke them out from your back and you don't need the opponents limbs to do it. One of the best at this submission in UFC is Aleksei Oleinik

OP cracked the code that these pro fighters just haven't been able to figure out on their own.

Missed calling, should obviously be coaching if not fighting.

I doubt it's that viable in the lower weight classes. HW grappling is special because the dudes are big and strong, so trying to go for a better position is not always an option as it's not energy efficient. Ezekiel choke works in these kind of stalemate situations which are much rarer in the lower weight classes.

I’m surprised more don’t do it from mount, but you don’t see it much in no gi grappling either at the high level

Gotta have some old man squeeze, I'm sure his frame is perfect for it also. If it was that simple, 135lbs grapplers could win openweight at ADCC with it.

There is a ceiling that most fighters hit early on in their training and they will never improve past that. How many fighters have truly improved their skills and abilities over the years of training? Most tweak the skill set that they are born with but they never truly evolve or gains new skills.

Reminds me a bit of how OSP made the von flue choke popular. He hit it 4 times including two back to back.

I think Oleynik has hit more scarfhold chokes than Ezekiels. Man knows how to use his arms like a gi.

Most fighters train to not give up position.

It works well from top mount.

Doing it from underneath mount is just trolling.

Even in jiu jitsu, alot of people don't get the hang of how to pull it off in nogi.

I like it, but I also love the north south choke and from what I understand alot of athletes have trouble with getting the north south choke to work too.

Outside of Oleinik, Craig Jones has a great nogi ezekiel choke and has explained it on youtube, and Marcelo Garcia is famous for the north south choke and proving you don't have to be built like Monson to make it work.

This was actually the first move I spammed from mount when I was just starting. I actually stopped doing it to my fellow whitebelts because no can defend at that time.

wtf does that have to do with what i said?

The real question is whether Ortega vs Yair 2 should be considered an ezekiel.

If a fighter masters both the Von Flue choke and the Ezekiel choke they will be unstoppable.
