Initially Jones was just a slightly social awkward kid trying to fit in and be a good champion and role model. HIs christian demeanors and wholesome qualities were derided as fake and arrogance. He was already hated at this point. Eventually the hatred just led to him to say fuck it and pursue this current path of "real" Jones who doesn't give a fuck anymore. But lets stop revisionism, Jones was hated even when he was squeaky clean

he was definitely hated by many fans even when he did nothing wrong

but then he started doing a lot of bad things and now a lot more fans hate him

this isn't a complicated issue

Doesn't matter if he is hated or loved as long as people pay to see him fight. And I will!

He was hated because he snitches on some dudes for pot and all the weed heads threw a fit over it.

Then he beat Shogun and somehow disrespected him in the lead up to the fight.

More people like Jones now than in the past, so IDK what you're talking about. I've always hated him, even I like him more. He's not so fake, he just full on trolls now... which sounds counterintuitive, but somehow, for Jones, that is 'less fake' because.

It was the snitch thing that started the ball rolling. And don't act like everyone would be fine if GSP had done it.

From snitching on pot smokers, to a coked out hit and run.

It's been quite the journey.

I hate JBJ, but don't want to see him lose before the HW move.

Ever since he admitted to snitching on people smoking weed I've never liked him.

I remember him walking around with an UFC belt claiming it was his before the Shogun fight. Rubbed me the wrong way.

I actually started liking him when he stopped being a phony good guy. I still like him, I've missed his fights, dude is the best out there at the moment.

could have been around the time of "check on Machida's corpse, get some fans". I guess calling himself the UFC LHW champion leading up to the Shogun title fight rubbed some the wrong way too since Shogun was a legend and a respectful dude yet Jones found ways to disrespect him.

He broke alot of hearts, and the whole schism with Rashad kinda showed his arrogant side. But i didnt mind it so much,i get that he rubs people the wrong way but i dont give a shit about that so long as he brings it in the cage, and he hasnt let me down in that aspect. Dude just needs to stop getting fucking arrested,or ever driving again,is all.

I didn't like him because of his perceived lack of authenticity - if there is one thing worse than an asshole, it is a sanctimonious asshole.

As Sonnen pointed out, Jones should just embrace his role as the villain and drop the charade of being a "Reformed Christian". Strangely, I think he would probably have more fans.

Anybody who lived in and around Fort Dodge, Iowa/Iowa Central Community College in the mid 2000's has been laughing at that since it began.
