This obsession that MMA fans have for Ronda intrigues me. I believe that the growth that WMMA had in recent years was not because of the skills shown in the Octagon, but the drama created by the horrible persona of Ronda. Everyone wanted to see her fail, and that was it.

When Dana said WMMA grew thanks to Ronda, he was right. She created a novel and everyone joined.

Ronda was not the champion we deserved, but the one WMMA needed.

The strawweight division doesn't revolve around drama. Also, the entire UFC is being driven towards being drama filled. Stupid millennial fans crave it. That's why so many fans on here bitch if a fighter doesn't "sell" a fight to them. They're not real fight fans.

Sort of agree. There is something about watching an undefeated competitor in any sport though. She had an air of invincibility, and the snowball grew from there.

I don't feel like it's all about the drama of Rousey now though. At at least for me, I enjoy watching girls like Joanna Champion, Holly Holm and Meisha Tate compete.
