Let's be honest about Max/Volk

Max isn’t even as far back as #2 FTW. He’s #1B. Him and Alex just keep getting in each others’ way but really they are both equally the cream of the crop of the FTW’s. He doesn’t have a belt but he’s beaten nearly everyone. He’s beaten some of Alex’s opponents more succinctly and vice versa.

I can have it both ways because Volk got the unjustified W with his crap excuse and it is widely accepted and I am merely requesting that the courtesy is extended to Holloway. Both men had a bad night.
Again entirely happy to debate that win, Volk rightfully got his hand raised and unquestionably won the first and shut him out in the third. After Volk beats Topuria arguably there's not much left for him at FW, maybe an undefeated Evoloev at most if that. Max can absolutely fight for a title again no problem, it will just be once Volk decides the rest of his career will be at LW.

Are we really back to trying to give max as many rematches as it takes until he finally wins one?

The answer is no, we are not. Max has more work to do. He has only won two fights since his last loss to volk. Many guys, after losing the belt, they need to win 1-2 in a row just to get the first rematch. Since max wants a fourth rematch, he's going to have to put up a win streak longer than a couple fights.
I don't mind him getting the rematch against Volk, however he's gonna need another win or two considering how one-sided the last result was and on paper him being down 0-3.
The Allen was very solid and will most likely age well, but beating TKZ now isn't that huge of a deal considering the circumstances and doesn't exactly scream that Max deserves a fourth crack at Volk. Also Volk just a little over a year ago beat TKZ way more handily compared to Max.
If he beats someone like Evloev or Giga next and Volk is still around then sure, three wins with two being against solid prospects in a slim division. It's not the most intriguing fight, that being said Max would be pretty much undeniable at that point.

By the way why is everyone disregarding Volk's explanation with the USADA situation for the second bout? Multiple fighters have mentioned the same thing happening to them and USADA do it while fighters just got done weight cutting or sleeping before fight night, that shit is fucked.
Volk got screwed over by that on fight island and only talked about once the trilogy was settled, it seems like a pretty valid excuse for his performance.

First fight was easy Volk win
Second fight was very close (I gave max the 3rd
Third fight was the decider and it was as dominant as could be and no need for a fourth.

Volk goes to LW and gets beat up there just like Holloway would except Volk is up there in age and people will act like he fell out of his prime.

This is what will happen. Write it down.

Volk fights Topuria and takes major damage win or lose. Conversation changes. This part is assured unless Volk ducks. Either Topuria beats him up again or this talk of going to LW ends and Max beats a contender and fights Volk for their last matchup and the loser goes to LW.

Topuria hits hard but unless Volk fall off a cliff performance wise and ages overnight he wins the fight comfortably. Topuria won't get an immediate rematch maybe he can fight Max in Spain after Volk goes up and instead of giving Islam a scare dethrones him this time.

I say all of those explanations are exaggerations. Max-Volk 4 is competitive today. Max looked like crap in the trilogy fight - bad night for him. Some of us thought he was going down the Ferguson route after that night but clearly it was uncharacteristic.
Is there any proof that it was a bad night for Holloway? He was ready to fight and got beat the fuck down at his own game. Absolutely no reason to believe he will ever be competitive with Volk again, ever. Beating Zombie in 2023 proves literally nothing (and Volk already beat Zombie as badly as Gaethje beat Tony Ferguson.)

No matter what happens in what I predict - everybody will say Volk fell off a cliff. He is going to sit around and pray Islam smokes Charles again. Which won't happen. Gaethje will sitting around clamouring for a title shot with his stupid BMF belt.

Watch what Topuria does to Volk who is no stranger to getting wobbled and dropped.

Topuria won't lay a finger on him. His experience is low by comparison and his best win is Josh Emmett. There's no way he's going to be crazy competitive with the guy who destroyed Max Holloway utterly, and cleared out the division.

He beat Arnold Allen on 10 streak pretty clean and poor athletic performances happen. No proof needed. Just eyeballs.

Zombie doesn't really count as a win for either man, we should agree on that.

I didn't see a poor athletic performance, tho. You can come healthy and ready to fight and still be dominated.

Yeah a poor athletic performance is just what I meant by poor general performance. Not necessarily physical but you might not be in the zone that day and the next time you're in a flow state. This is a fact of life and I am glad it is not my profession. Nobody thinks Holloway who fought Yair lunging for takedowns was the same dude styling on Kattar the previous fight - same Kattar who killed Giga his next one.

Shit happens. Volk had easily his best night and Max looked terrible from the second round on

you can say he looked terrible, but he looked that way because of what volk was doing to him. which is what volk will do to him again if they fight again.

Volk is gonna get beat up by Ilia next unless Islam smokes Alex and we get another 2 division destroying champ-champ fight where Alex takes advantage of the fact that he is well-suited for strong losing efforts against Islam

I'd watch and think Max has a chance. Very evenly matched guys even with the 3-0 for Volk.

Based on the fact that their first 10 rounds were by consensus 5-5 with the only person being rocked and dropped being Volk and Max looking absolutely awful by the standard of any previous or subsequent performance in the trilogy.

It is only MMA fans that refuse to consider the possibility that athletes underperform on a given night.
Volk has won 12 of 15 rounds v Max you dribbling buffoon
